Post-0.1.0 TODO

Alright, I could use some input: There's loads of stuff to be done, but how to prioritize different areas? I'd like to immediately continue working on the game itself, but it's probably more important to get the word out about the project and to work on documentation.

Off the top of my head:
- Installation help
- Ethernet mode manual
- How to help? guide
- Promoting the project
- How to contribute code,art,sound,music
- How to host a server
- Monetary donations? or would that be vulgar?

What am I forgetting?

Also, where to put those things? Would https://github.com/fr1tz/terminal-overload/wiki do the trick?

The github wiki should be fine of it. And regarding donations: sure go for it, but don't expect there to be any ;)

A short beginner's guide to the game wouldn't hurt but I think at this point there will not be that many players yet. So anything that caters to other contributors (code and art) is probably better.

One could also think about some sore of regular developer's games, like every second Sunday people meet in the game and try out the latest build and give suggestions.

fr1tz {l Wrote}:- Promoting the project

I think this is a bit too early. If you already want to promote, such a promotion could only be aimed towards testers, but not to players, of course.

fr1tz {l Wrote}:- Monetary donations? or would that be vulgar?

It is not vulgar to kindly ask for monetary donations, since donations are completely voluntary by definition.

fr1tz {l Wrote}:What am I forgetting?

Translations. Unless they are already supported.

Yeah, "promotion" was a bad choice of words, but it's important to reach as many potential contributors as possible. Anybody have ideas how to do that?

As far as donations, I don't really expect any, but it makes sense to let people know that donating money to the project is possible ;)

I'm not yet sure how to handle support for multiple languages, does anybody here have experience with that?

I totally agree on having regular test matches. Should I set up a little doodle to figure out the best day/time?

Posting about it on here might raise some interest: http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming

Concerning languages, not sure how Torque3d handles that, but for crowd-sourcing the translations setting up a pootle server is quite useful. Xonotic seems to be using a commercial SaaS called transifex, not sure if that is good, but see here: http://translate.xonotic.org/

The test matches should probably be convenient for you, as I wouldn't count on too many people showing up initially.

Thanks Julius.

Posting to http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming and http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev are good ideas. Is anybody here a redditor? TOL could really use someone to function as "official reddit liaison" ;)

The help section need to live on the homepage, a CMS would be needed for that.
Since I don't really like github I can't even believe I say this:
We might host the homepage with Jekyll on github pages. https://pages.github.com/

...there I did it.

In game menus :( Especially for new players that need to quickly check on the controls and adjust some performance settings while in game.

A ping, player and score board like commonly found when pressing tab would be also nice to have.

Julius is right. Ingame menus are even more important.
There should be a way to maintain one help-section and use that on the homepage and the game. Nobody will ever keep two places in sync.

Any idea how we could manage to achieve that? (Does the ingame support html?)

Ingame does not support HTML, but supports a simple markup language (see http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=148049.0).

Ingame menu is on the TODO.
