Stunt Rally 2.7 released

Stunt Rally 2.7 released

Postby CryHam » 11 Nov 2022, 23:55

We have a new 2.7 release
Game video (12min 23sec)
Gallery (146 screens)

I uploaded Windows installer to github in Releases.
Since it's over 1GB Sourceforge limit. So that will be old releases archive.
And tagged git repos for building from sources and any packages.

One notable issue is that SR editor has no or bad vegetation placing, since a bug in Ogre. It won't happen if you built latest Ogre 1.13 from sources.
But I decided to release anyway. Will do 2.7.1 when our deps get updated to newest Ogre too, no idea when.

The game looks pretty cool but it concerns me that it has proprietary cars, has it been considered to replace them with free models?

Sure it has been considered. It's not my fault that most (CC-BY-SA etc) models of vehicles (on blendswap and sketchfab) are based of real life cars. I guess only few percent are original work.
I think it's the popularity concern for 3D artists, games, etc. And I also don't want to drop SR popularity more, by removing popular vehicles.
I do favor original vehicles, and we have a few, e.g. UV, TU, 3B, BV, U6, V1, V2, O, can be seen in our browser.
Well, I hope you don't want to turn this SR release topic into some long discussion (that may bring nothing to me or SR), if so that would be better in a separate topic.

Sure, congratz on the release. I used to be a great fan of Trackmania so this looks genuinely interesting to me, maybe a soft fork in a form of script (similar to Linux vs Linux-libre) that leaves in only the free stuff and allows inclusion on LGW would be nice "feature" for the next release which would certainly increase its popularity among freedom caring people :) Take this as a feedback of a potential new user.

EDIT: OK, I commented about this in another thread in the SR subforum

Any plans to make a Appimage or Flatpak for this?

Well I myself don't plan to, so it's up to packagers.
IDK about Appimage at all. But flatpak was done by AsciiWolf, I asked on github, it's planned.
So I hope since the tag 2.7 is there, packagers will try.
Could be more problematic since not many distros have Ogre 13 (1.13.x) and I didn't try with any except my 1.13.4, plus I'd recommend latest from master since there is a fix that makes SR editor work.
