Editor tutorials, requests ?

Editor tutorials, requests ?

Postby CryHam » 05 Oct 2013, 14:52

Ok guys (mainly Wuzzy and rubberduck) but also anyone who actually makes tracks and already uses track editor. (Or at least has seen all videos and feels like something is missing).
I'm asking if you need any new tutorial videos.
E.g. what would you like more explained ? what process of track creating/editing needs more description ?

I'm now thinking of a chapter called: "making your track pretty", or something like that, when I show how to make more variations which make an already made track look better.
Maybe I need to make another called: where to put checkpoints. Or explaining blendmap or road parameters too ?

Next, few things are probably broken or inconvenient to do or apper too magic (don't know what they do).
I intend to make presets for road materials and terrain layers, which will automatically set up particles, tire trail colors, and surface, I feel also like nobody changes this (and also this takes too much time, should happen by itself).

probably something how you could add your own objects to sr

what you have in

http://code.google.com/p/vdrift-ogre/wi ... ithBlender

but in a video

the second idea would be the new 4 points in the editor
(copied from versionHistory)

Some edit fields now also with slider and sliders with edits
Checkpoint radius restrictions (1 to 2.5 on terrain, constant on bridges and pipes)
Objects selection mark
Split settings tab to 3

but i think the second thing is not very important

Wiki page about error messages and warning messages

Postby Wuzzy » 07 Oct 2013, 20:20

I wish a wiki page on warnings and errors, especially what certain messages mean, possible causes and how to fix the errors. Not all warnings are self-explanationary. A wiki page is much more convenient for a quick look-up. The video is incomplete iirc and also inconvenient as a reference (imagine searching the video for the one part that answers your specific question).

PS: And pretty much everything what rubberduck requested, too. Especially how to add own objects.

Right. I'll try to update that (don't know when though, probably after holiday).
Although, I'm on windows, wouldn't be usefull. Maybe I'll try to show it on Linux, but didn't ever do it yet there.

another idea is to make a video about some new track-features (like the video"sr ver2.0 - landscapes" with some new elements in tracks:

- driving on the pipe
- pipe-obstacles
- jumping on pyramides
- pipejumps
- new objects
- new scenery: moon

and in the end of this video some funny driving-mistakes, crashes (not extra made, real accidents when playing sr) :)

edit: also extra made accidents are good
i added a replay from the track Stuntpark where i crashed again everything :)

A wiki-page about adding new materials (ground, road/pipe-materials) would be helpful

it should contain:

how to name the files (for example name_nh and name_prv for materials) and the right file-format
the size of the textures (not file-size)
how to "regulate" specularity

how to make a simple seamless texture with gimp
how to make a normalmap with the normalmap plugin for gimp and how to install it on windows and linux
