New object ideas ..

This thread is for collecting ideas for objects you want to see in the game, no matter if dynamic or static.

Here are my ideas:

Dynamic objects:
  • Wooden plank/board
  • Light cuboid hay ball (sometimes used in real-life rallies, would probably add great flavor to SR)
  • Heavy round hay roll
  • Single wood log (very heavy, great as obstacle on the road)

Static objects:
  • Large concrete cube (Generic static object, can be useful for scaling down to make generic obstacles or pillars)
  • Generic kicker/ramp (very simple shape for scalability. Not intended to replace actual ramps, more intended to be placed on the side of the road, for example).
  • Round concrete pillar
  • Ring (similar to the pipe obstacles, but with just the ring and without the obstacle, could be used to make jumping stunts which have to go through the ring).
  • Wooden fence

Great ideas.
Few of them are somewhere on blendswap already.
I remember playing Stunt playground a lot, long ago, it had some cool objects too, video.
And from my side:

  • Hay box (just rectangular hay like in europe)
  • Signs. Lots of them, funny ones. Turn >>> or Stahp sings, terrain bumps, etc.
  • Hedge (textures are already done, could be also used for labirynth track)
  • I really liked the pipe obstacles, could be more of them and with more detailed texture (or more tilling).

And well lets not forget, thete is a list of objects from blendswap already wanted to put in game.
Just don't edit it (unless you do sth with them).

i like such decorative "racing gates" or other decorative racing assets

another idea is to have arrayable decoration objects to create walls like in the second or third image


another idea: warning signs (for example curve, "!"-warning-sign or tilt/angle-warning for steep track segments)

Yay, rings!

I don’t like some of the signs very much. Most signs are probably useless for gameplay purposes. Who the hell would need a parking sign in Stunt Rally? xD There could be definitely more signs for racing purposes, like “looping ahead”, “extreme road tilt”, “obstables on road”, “jump ahead”, multiple signs for curves (from slight curves to sharp turns), etc.

The speed limit signs are also problematic. I know they are in km/h but it still sucks, because these signs subvert the player’s setting. Also, the speeds are too coarse to be useful for racing IMO. Still it’s better than nothing.

Rubberduck recently made some sign objects.

This lead me to the idea of some new signs.

The idea is to create Stunt-Rally-specific signs to help a little bit with gameplay. Here are ideas what these signs could denote:

Direction signs (denote where to drive):
  • Nope - Curve ahead (slight, medium, sharp) - unless in between jumps
  • Straight road ahead (should only be used when it is not obvious - where?)

Road signs (denote the type of the road which comes after the sign, to be used next to a road or on a bridge):
  • Nope - Looping ahead - really easy to see a loop (is just 1 on Factory that isn't)
  • Nope - Barrel loop ahead (like in 1st Mars track)
  • Nope - Road roll: x degrees (example: 90°) - no need, easy to see the road
  • Jump ahead - only when you don't see it (e.g. after a turn, or below visibility)
  • Nope - In-pipe driving ahead - eh, really
  • On-pipe driving ahead - yes
  • Nope - Bridge ahead (should only be used when it is surprising)
  • Offroad driving (technically: This is the road type “Hidden”. This is used very rarely so far, I have seen only 1 track which uses this.)
  • Narrow road - yes

Pipe signs (signs to be used inside a pipe):
  • End of pipe ahead - yes
  • Pipe obstacle ahead - yes (sign shows roughly where the obstacle lies)

Warning signs (denote a dangerous/tricky part of the track):
  • Obstacles on road
  • Dangerous drop - yes, cliff drawing (=if you are not careful here, you might drop!)

Wuzzy you're starting to talk too much and do too little.
Anyways, half of what you put is a NOPE. Well, unless sbdy does them and puts them really in those not obvious places only.
Signs are meant to be placed in max 5 places on just a couple of tracks. Most tracks won't have them.
They aren't a pace notes system (that would need some code and be automatic).

But yeah, Stunt Rally needs own drawn signs, I couldn't agree more. I'm gonna make few, IDK when.

Next, one CRUCIAL thing. Each sign has to be 1 batch, i.e. 1 material, 1 texture with different parts on it.
For reference see e.g. all pers buildings, car wheels etc.
Everything that can be more than once, has to be so (1 batch).

Haha, those were just my random ideas. I am not expecting that anyone adopts those.
No reason to shout down brainstorming. ;)

And maybe I use this list for future reference, in case I actually get into creating objects someday. But currently, admittedly, I have no clue about creating objects, sorry. :(

I've added Nope-s to your post.
To be clearer, I'll repeat here those which I like, with idea for symbol:

On-pipe driving start - car on pipe symbol
Narrow road - two straight lines with car inside?
Pipe obstacles ahead - round obstacle symbol
Dangerous drop - cliff drawing with falling of car

And from me (IMO most important):
Sharp turn sings - symbol >>>
Simple turn signs - symbol > only for places like on TopTwist to know where to jump if not straight
Hairpin turn and U turn sings - shape of turn and U (not sure if needed)
Stahp sign - I'll do that myself, red hand with STAHP text. Too bad it's english only.
Maybe also
Slow down and Fast signs - for symbol IDK, maybe >> rotated up or down and red or green?

Later we could have
Jump speed symbols, could change meshes shown between kmh and mph when loading track, but each jump has a different speed, had to have too many.

i made some shapes for the new signs with inkscape, so i can change them before i make real textures out of them

Ah. And here is what I drew, IMO the most important for now:

No reason for jump or loop signs, that's impossible to miss visualy.
But on-pipe sign would be cool (to put for start and end places).

Also for danger, some skull, e.g. ... ium-174687 ... sbones.svg
