Hello,

I opened a ticket on the Mesa bugtracker about a crash happening with my card (Radeon HD5870).
I would like to let you known about this issue too:

Right. Well I got no idea why but:
"If one of these gfx settings is different, the GPU will not hang."
I don't see any reason why anybody would need to use lowest settings with vegetation AND enable soft-particle effect.
It's like 2 opposite things. Either you use no effects and low settings, or you use high settings or higher and with effects.

I agree this is certainly a silly gfx setting, but it's just to identify when the hangs happens.
I originaly detected this crash with the preset settings:

High preset with soft particules = no crash
Higher preset without soft particules = no crash
Higher preset with soft particules = CRASH
Ultra preset without soft particules = CRASH
