Hi dimproject,

The goal of this one is to display seconds: e.g.: 4.2s

You might want to add an explanatory comment to the translation catalog if it's not the case already, then.

Hi Akien, :)

You might want to add an explanatory comment to the translation catalog if it's not the case already, then.

Yes, it is the case already. Yet, you can't see it if you're not editing the po file using poedit and within a complete clone, unfortunately.
Or do you know a standard way to add a comment directly in the po file, visible by translators?

Best regards,

Hi Bertam,

Looking at some .po files on the master branch, I can't see a comment for this string (neither in Kate nor in Poedit). I looked at the .pot file and at gl.po (BTW the "%ss" string is missing from the French translation, maybe you need to refresh the translation catalog?).

Looking at the translation catalog for "Me and My Shadow", I see that they manage to add comments to the translation catalog using simply ///, see e.g. an excerpt from src/Addons.cpp:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
if(!addonFile.good()) {
      //NOTE: We keep the console output English so we put the string literal here twice.
      cerr<<"ERROR: unable to load addon_list file!"<<endl;
      /// TRANSLATORS: addon_list is the name of a file and should not be translated.
      error=_("ERROR: unable to load addon_list file!");
      return false;
   }

It produces in the data/locale/messages.pot file (and subsequent .po files):
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
#  TRANSLATORS: addon_list is the name of a file and should not be translated.
#: ../src/Addons.cpp:161
msgid "ERROR: unable to load addon_list file!"
msgstr ""

After a quick search, it seems it wouldn't work out-of-the-box like that, but you need to pass an argument to tell gettext what prefix is used for comments (e.g. triple slash).

Thanks a lot for the tip Akien. :)

Akien {l Wrote}:(BTW the "%ss" string is missing from the French translation, maybe you need to refresh the translation catalog?).

I'll update the catalog asap along with doing the french translation update. but I didn't want to do it every time I added a string.

EDIT:
Looking at some .po files on the master branch, I can't see a comment for this string (neither in Kate nor in Poedit).

IIRC, in poedit, you can toggle the code view panel, which opens the corresponding source file where the string was found at the given line.

Ok, guys, I know there haven't been a lot of activity on VT forums lately, but for you to know, I'll update the catalog and the French translation along with Akien's given trick.

@Akien: It seems you're French. Feel free to have a look once I'm done to french translation and tell me if you find something eye-hurting. ;)

The dungeon's scripting task is overwhelming but I've managed to kill the most annoying things to script, so we should be there in a month or two. :D

Best regards,

Frig, even in forums my outstanding French accent betrays me :-P

I'll have a look. I'm looking forward to the next release to play Valyria Tear again (and do some QA while doing so, it wouldn't hurt). And I've already heard of some Mageia players using my VT package, so I guess I'm not the only one :-D

For the non-tech savvy here (i.e. me), what is the simplest way to get an up-to-date version of the game? I would like to do some linguistic testing while I have time, but I have no idea how to update the game. Also, what would you recommend for a fast way to do linguistic testing? I have been updating the Spanish PO file to correct UI issues and what not. Let me know.

Thanks =)

Hi jahalic, :)

Sorry for the late answer.
what is the simplest way to get an up-to-date version of the game?

The simplest way to get that is to compile it from source. You can find it here (instructions in the README):
https://github.com/Bertram25/ValyriaTear
(Unfortunately, I don't have the time to add nightly builds atm, so I don't have the full non-tech savvy solution yet. ;])
On the other hand, the story, even in the dev version, has been purposely been stopped after the Harlequin boss as I am designing/scripting the Episode I final dungeon atm.
I am half-way done, and I expect to be fully finished within two months now, (It's only an expectation, though.) I hope to be able to unlock that last part before that so you all can test and enjoy it, and hopefully report bugs to me before we go to full release. :)

Also, what would you recommend for a fast way to do linguistic testing?

If by that, you mean attest the sentences are going well with their context, I'd say, having a save with overpowered characters would permit you to advance quickly to one story point.
If you know at which story point, you want to start, can give you a save for that.

I have been updating the Spanish PO file to correct UI issues and what not. Let me know.

I you have fixes, feel free to upload the file here, if you want to. I'll push it. :)

Best regards,

Great, thanks!

It's still on my TODO list to do a playthrough of the master branch and see if the French translation needs improvement here and there. I'll keep you posted :)
