Mac Users

I really don't see an area for Mac users.

I see that the latest version of Red Eclipse doesn't support Mac users on Leopard 10.5 with powerpc's.

So, I decided yesterday to compile it myself.

Now, there is really no good place to put the binary for others to see and download. If a Mac use goes to the Red Eclipse web site and not find a PPC binary.
I would think that they wouldn't go to this forum to get it. Since, they probably wouldn't know there's one available here.

I'm posting it here anyways.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20024238/Red%20Eclipse%201.4.1%20for%20Mac%2010.5%20ppc.dmg

Even thou it says PPC it's actually universal PPC and i386.

Feedback and suggestions welcome

Thanks,

Net....

As far as I remember, the main reason for no longer supporting PowerPC is due to Apple abandoning the platform itself and nobody in the community being able to compile and test such a version. I personally don't expect anyone to have a problem with this unofficial installer (the more players, the more fun), but due to the lack of testing I'd expect some resistance against putting it on a more visible point.

At any rate, I personally hope you'd stick around for longer and will be doing this more often. Red Eclipse 1.5 should be appearing sooner or later, and it'd be a shame if PPC Mac user support would be dropped yet again, both because it would leave users behind and because it would look harmful upon our community, due to PPC Mac users expecting support for future versions as well. If we can't supply that, we'll surely end up disappointing users and, with a bit of bad luck, end up with some badmouthing due to "a lack of care" while the main reason is simply that we do not have the resources to support PPC Mac users properly.

Don't take my word for it, though. This is something that's obviously better left to one of the heads of this project, which we'll hopefully see in this topic sooner or later. For what it's worth, even though your contribution is useless to me (as a GNU/Linux user), I appreciate your help towards giving more people a chance to enjoy Red Eclipse.

Thanks for the response.

I put the package I made on another Mac and found out the Frameworks where all wrong.

I tried cheating by using the xcode project that was in the source but apparently it's not usable on Xcode 3.1.4. I was hoping to modify it so it will compile. It does but not correctly.
I had to modify it by hand to fixup the Frameworks and fixup redeclipse binary too.

I put the new package on the other mac and it seems to be ok now.

The link above should be fine too.

Hopefully, I'll get some feedback on this.

Thanks,

Net....

I now have it running as a server on the other Mac.

Stop in and check it out.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Net....

Obviously it's NeBoot's server

Thanks for your effort, if you're interested in helping out with the Mac side of things, let me know. It could really use a maintainer who actually uses the operating system :P

Actually, I wouldn't mind helping out when I can.

I could also use your help. I have a bz2 archive of my package and would like to have it up on SourceForge.

I'm limited on space on DropBox. I'm waiting on TheDoctor over at Smokin' Guns. Did a package there for PPC Mac's.
But, not much activity goin' on. Sent an email, haven't gottin' a reply yet. To have him put it up on the site.
Don't see it happening soon thou. It's been posted for weeks.

Any hoot, If you have a dump somewhere. I can up the bz2 package version.

Thanks,

Net....

Using Sourceforge's FRS would mess with the default download, etc. I'm not really sure where else we could put it either though, leave it with me, and if anyone else has any ideas please speak up!

I decide to see what the dealings are and how to use SourceForge.

Anyway, I created an account an project Red Ecipse - Unofficial

I put the bz2 file up there.

If this is a problem for you I'll remove it and the project.

Thanks again,

Net....

Edited:

Maybe I should have asked you first.

Sorry about that, wasn't thinking.

OK, Here's what I have as far as the dmg is concerned.

It's encapsulated in a zip so just double click to extract the dmg. Double click on the dmg to mount and drag and drop the application on the Application folder inside the mounted image.

It should automatically display it on the screen.

Here's what it looks like. Sorry, I'm not a graphics designer. Just a simple colored background.

As far as support.

When I get a chance. I'll have to create a xcode project from scratch to compile on Mac OS 10.5.

As far as the repository. Not really needed. Just put my xcode project in with the xcode project that's all ready there but in a zip file.

Just double click on it to over write the new project.

When it's ready, I'll posted it here so you can add it to your repository.

Thanks,

Net....

Haha, no problem. You labeled it unofficial, which as far as our trademark policy goes, is perfectly acceptable. Gimme a prod if you need something :)

kk

Here's the unofficial url:

If you have any problems with it, let me know.

And yeah, SourceForge is not very forgiving. Had some troubles with the uploads to work correctly.

I dumped the web upload and used CyberDuck instead. Which worked well.

Any chance of getting a link on the main Red Eclipse page as a 3rd party download?

I'm not getting any download traffic. The only traffic is from me for testing.

Thanks

Ideally we'd merge your stuff in before we do a release, you're not going to find many Mac users here to begin with. If you really want me to add it to the website, can you please make a ticket? I will forget before Monday otherwise.

I put the image on a grid pattern and it's centered with the case only. Not the case and face plate.

It's the best I can do and I'm going with it unless someone comes up with something better.

Is it possible for me [Mac OSX 10.4.11] to play online with other players without getting message saying I need a newer protocol because I already tried downloading the new one and it won't work...
