Won't run on my iMac G5 :(

Hi, I'm glad to see that the project is moving along nicely, I really liked some of the ideas back in BF and am excited to see where it's all going.
However,
I just downloaded RE yesterday, mounted the .dmg file and nothing happened when I double clicked the RE icon.
I'm using an iMac G5 running OSX 10.4.11

Any idea what the problem is?

Thanks,
Julian

This is a known issue on Mac OSX Tiger that has been fixed upstream. Due to the relatively small number of users it hits, the need for a patch release wasn't deemed necessary. It's an easy fix though.

1. Open the Red Eclipse image.
2. Right (or cmd-) click the redeclipse.app and select show contents (or use properties -> show contents).
3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS/.
4. Download this file and replace "redeclipse" in this folder with it.
5. Try to run the game again.
6. Thank Apple for difficult and inconsistent APIs.

Thanks for the speedy answer.
It didn't help though. :(

I did just what you said, do I need to change the extension of the patchy thing? When I "get info" for it it says that it's a document, whereas the other files in the folder Contents/MacOS/ are identified as Unix Executable Files.

It's okay, I got it!
I used XRay to change the permissions so that the patchy thing was recognized as an executable.
Now it works.

Thanks for getting me started.

The great thing is that the game actually runs on hardware that old... I have essentially the same machine.

For simplicity's sake, until the next release I think we should tell Tiger users to just delete the redeclipse file & rename redeclipse_compatible to redeclipse.
That way we won't have to deal with the permission issues.
