[UPDATE-v1.1] ZeroKnight's Laser Rifle Scope

So, even though I don't frequently use the Laser Rifle's Scope, I still managed to make out the barely visible crosshair and marks on the scope...which I only found today :P Given that they are so hard to see, barely useful, and IMO not the best looking.
I'm a novice when it comes to GFX, so despite working several hours for a first version, I managed to come up with a different "zoom.png"...which isn't much better D: /low self-esteem

Since all the weapons have a key color, which is shared by the name color, ammo color, icon color, and discharge color...I figured why not make the scope share the Laser Rifle's purple color? From that I figured since the weaponry and armor of Red Eclipse is somewhat "future-tech", I thought of future-tech scopes from some games like F.E.A.R., where the scope on the laser gun was digital, and had that overlay and random text for more visual appeal. Why not incorporate that? It looks nice. So, using the default "zoom.png" as a template, I modified it a little, making the crosshair bars complete, adding a cut circle, some neat text info ("Eclipse Rifle" is just something I came up with...sounds kinda neat and shares the game's name ^^), a color overlay, and other fancy visuals. It's really not technically a completely new scope, but very far from the original :)

Comments and critique are appreciated, especially ideas. I'm not so creative, so I'm sure some of you could suggest a neat addition/change ^_~
I added the PSD so you can play with it as you wish, and to help possibly suggest an idea (hint hint ;D)
The crosshair part of the scope has two parts. There's the crossbars, and then there's an extra X in the center of the crossbars, for a different style. Some people may not like it, or wish to use their normal crosshair with the scope. To suit this purpose, there are two copies of the scope image, each their respectively named style.

You may be thinking, what about my regular crosshair getting in the way of the X? Well, as counter-intuitive as it is, there's no way to "disable" the crosshair in the zoom. However, you can change it. So simply use blankXHair.png included in the attached zip and set your zoom crosshair to that. (Refer to instructions if you don't know how) Huzzah, no conflicting crosshairs :P

One more thing, if someone with the knowledge could convert my batch file into a Bash Script for linux, and one for whatever Mac uses? I'm not currently very familiar with Bash, and I have no idea about Mac, so if someone would like to, please post it here and I'll throw it in the zip. Thanks! :D
Don't use it. I made that forever ago before I was on linux, and before I understood the purpose of the home dir in RE. Just put the images in your RE home folder under data/textures. Example:

Linux:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
~/.redeclipse/data/textures

Windows:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
(My) Documents/My Games/Red Eclipse/data/textures

The game will check for any content in the home dir first, and use that instead of the default files :) This way you don't have to overwrite anything.

Haha I'll be on in a little bit actually :P
Lol Instagib is fun, bit it's not my best game mode, so you probably will XD
Oh yeah, I figured it'd be a nice edition, plus I just wanted to practice a little batch scripting :P

I think that it would be awesome to have a distance calculator in the scope, so when you point the crosshair at something, it would say how far away it was, but that might be too much work...

Yeah that sounds cool, laser range finder (though it is more useful for actual sniping, because the laser doesn't drop and can go really far so don't really need a LRF) - Also you should add Mildots, so you can shoot moving targets.

old thread is old, though this looks AWESOME! Zero, you need to get this in 1.4.

Holy crap, I didn't expect to see this resurface.
It works in all versions :P The 7z should still be good. Ignore the batch file in there, I created it when I didn't understand the purpose of the home dir.
Just throw it in your Red Eclipse home dir, under data/textures. Example:

Linux:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
~/.redeclipse/data/textures

Windows:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
(My) Documents/My Games/Red Eclipse/data/textures

Awesome, love it! Downloading now. Question - it looks kind of lo-def in the pictures, is it possible to sharpen it up a bit by increasing resolution?
And - version without the text PLEASE? Then would be perfect! :D

EDIT: looked at pic in full view, it is definitely not low-def, nvm :)

Note that I cannot modify the included .psd file to get the no-text version I want because it has been flattened, and so if I erase the text I will erase the shading in that area as well

Maybe copy the top-right corner and mirror it to the left?

I've been using this scope (well, a modified version) for a while now, nice to see it's being updated.

I really do like the "future-tech" aspects of this, but I think having the X (or just the dot) in the way makes it hard to see what you're shooting at, and the purple could be a bit more subtle.

Here's the version I use: (And a pic of it in action on the map Rivals.)
zoom.png
The full-resolution modified crosshair.

Also, ZeroKnight, I used to see you on the forums a lot, and I always wanted to ask you something: Team deathmatch?

There. I said it.

Just as a note to anyone reading this, the problem was my psd was created in Ps CS5. I believe opening it in gimp worked for him.

Thanks :) To this day I still use it (and I made it a year ago). The 'X' was my personal preference. I intentionally included the psd with the X removed for the very purpose of customization, which I see you happily partook in :) All is as intended.

Yeah, I used to be super active here, but neglected coming here for a while, as I mostly hung out in IRC anyway.
Lol, I've seen that. TEAM DEATHMATCH.
