Hey guys, as some of you may be aware, I am currently looking for a place to live. Renting a new property requires that I have enough good references to support my application; something that I am lacking professionally due to being on benefits for 14 years. My "work" as I consider it is Red Eclipse, and I'm sure more than a few of you are willing to put your hand up to support me in this endeavour.

To be a reference, you will need to provide me with your full name, address, and phone number (yes, international is OK too, include the country code for me!). I realise that this is very sensitive and private information, so I will ask that you send it directly to my email address: qreeves@gmail.com

I figure if I can show that I have a wonderful community project of which I am a strong part of, that they will look favourably on my application. I am hoping to have the application in by this time tomorrow. Thanks for your help, and don't worry if you cannot participate for any reason, I know it is a huge ask.

Could you explain a bit more clearly what it means to be a "reference"? Is it pretty much us putting a "virtual signature" with our data on a piece of paper saying that we think you would be able to responsibly rent a home and would not do anything stupid to the property?

In this case, it is more that you are verifying that I am me, and that I am a person of good character. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect business/work references to comment on a person's ability to rent. That being said, they might still call you to verify it is a legitimate reference.

Haha, should have emailed, I wasn't using written references for this part. I've lodged my application with those who already emailed me, but if I'm unsuccessful I could always use more. To be clear: I don't need a written reference, just the details in the OP

Privacy is of utmost importance for me. So this sentence made me very upset.

It's been proven that Google participates in PRISM and other international surveillance programs. By sending any personal information in plain text, you are giving it to Google, NSA, GCHQ and other intelligence agencies. If you care about your privacy, no matter with country you live in, you shouldn't be doing that.

Quin, if you still want to use Gmail, at least set up GNU Privacy Guard and give us your public key. This way Google and other agencies won't able to read personal information through the Gmail.

Governments don't respect our right to privacy but you can.
