Vampire Instagib

As it stands, the modifiers for vampire and instagib cannot both be enabled at the same time. However, I feel like there is a way to get them to interact well.

This is how it would work:
  • Every player would start with 1 health, as in instagib
  • Shooting and hitting someone would increase your health by 1
  • However, being shot would decrease your health by 2
  • There is a health limit (maybe 10 or 15)

I've implemented this (in a very hacky, unclean way) and have found it fairly fun. It is nice to be able to build up a health buffer when you're on a roll, but at the same time it doesn't feel like anyone is indestructible.

Thoughts?

There has been a poll about this topic in the past. This combination is only just disabled since v1.2 due to th poll results from back than. Personally I like it just the way it is, but your suggestion good be fun as an option. For me instagib is instant.

Hmm, the way the Xonotic mod Overkill does it might be interesting too:

When a player is killed a armor shard is dropped (with a short lifetime) and if you pick it up it protects you from some damage, meaning you can't be instakilled, but a second hit will kill you. I can't remember right now if these armor shards stack, but it would be feasible too.

I wan't aware of the previous poll, thanks for bringing that to my attention.

One of the main points was that someone with a 1:1 K/D ratio would never die. I considered this and it's why being shot would decrease health by two instead of one, to keep gameplay moving.

Also, this wouldn't necessarily have to be the combo of instagib and vampire, it's complicated enough that it probably could be it's own modifier.
