Booming...

Whoever played RE last night was in for a nice surprise... We reached about 82+ players tonight spread over some servers, making for a couple of unusual matches with plenty of human players. Some of us were scratching their heads, including me, and when asking where they all came from and what the hell just happened the only feedback that kept coming back was vsauce... Apparently that should be a youtube channel, but I'm not familiar with it and a quick scoop on youtube didn't result in a video featuring RE but I might have missed it. Who joined some matches and what did you think? Does anyone know anything more?

Anyway, it was very nice and I just wanted to share some screenshots with you as we had a lot of fun. :D

I joined in for a bit as well. It's amazing to see so many players. It also made me appreciate the queue system just that tad bit more ;)

Nice find Greaserpirate!

Maybe I'm the only one, but I truly never heard of vsauce before in my life :p Please explain to me what makes this guy so special and even better, why do people massively start playing RE when there is only like 5 or 10 seconds of footage in the video? All in all, the video doesn't look like something special to me, just a random youtube video like all the rest... :?

There are still more than 30 players now. Maybe they won't go away?

Honestly, I don't get the vsauce thing at all. It seems like a lot of two-second marketing for his favourite products. Somehow, Red Eclipse got more than two seconds and is fairly "prominently featured" in the video compared to the rest of the stuff, which is pretty cool. Hopefully we'll get some players who will stay around after this.

We should reach out to this guy, tell him the effects of his advertising and ask him to do a full featured video dedicated to RE :D Image the impact of that...

Yes, I was blown away! I have tried to play at the same time (5 PM PST) before and there is sometimes nobody on, maybe 5 players if I am lucky.

82 people on 6 or 7 servers! I had a choice of which server to join. It was ... awesome. With that number came lots-o-noobs, but who cares! I hope it continues, and people start realizing how great RE is.

Quin, I've thought you should get it added to a Humble Bundle or something as a freebie... but maybe word has finally gotten out!

Highest i've seen so far is 91. This is great.
It's making the non-instagib deathmatches really fun.

Now it's good that my last maps are a big.
I saw people voting for echo or darkness while there are 30 players on the server...
We need more maps like canals wich are big enough.
I also saw many people who said they like the game, so I think many of them will stay.

I was on this server where the new folks voted for ffa-survivor-jetpack 5 times in a row, even with me dominating (actually got a Blood Bathonce) every round. Cherished memories...

The impact is surprising.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/redecli ... s/timeline
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
Date           Downloads
2013-07-29     208
2013-07-30     196
2013-07-31     125
2013-08-01     2,101
2013-08-02     2,848

Players online stats seem to fluctuate between 40 to 100 over a day cycle. Maybe this was the little nudge needed to stimulate some growth of the player base.

But well, I think we cant be more happier with this amount of people. But if this keep increases, either we reduce the amount of max player of each servers, or make canals's alike maps :P

the one drawback to all the new guys is that they aren't very good, and complain a lot about losing. One guy told me to "stop hacking" and to "put away" my "bu11$hit" when I killed him with the rocket.

They'll most likely either get better, get quiter or ragequit the whole of Red Eclipse. Just give it some time, these things are normal with an influx of new users, no matter where you go. After a while they'll adapt at least somewhat or leave.

yeah, I'm actually kind of surprised people are this good on average, considering this is the first time they've heard about this game. The RE playerbase has always been the videogame equivalent of a Quaker village where eveyone knows each other, and I'm glad that our first encounter with the 'wider world' isn't leaving people alienated or angry at either group. Hopefully we can adopt them into our community and get them involved in content creation, our easy-to-use coopedit should help a lot with that. ;)

I've tried to be very helpful and welcoming, and talk up how great and fun the game is... while almost doubling the next highest score.
But I think that most of the new people are at or around the same skill level, so it's still fun. Some are complete noobs, running into walls, etc. But some players are pretty decent.

I think I'll go see who is on now. :)

Well I am welcoming and giving them some basic rules. And also telling them to any problem, they can count with an moderator/operator/etc.
