As of revision 5222, bots have nicknames. However, there need to be a few more, and who else could help better than the community?

So, some rules:
- Your username won't be a bot name, nor will anyone else's username.
- We need names which are fairly generic. Something that would just work well.
- Please label your nicknames male or female, for clarity.

- Please use ONE word names, all lowercase, no spaces, no punctuation, no numbers (reverse password rules, lol).

Those are the basics, I guess. Brainstorm along!

I would prefer "fantasy names". Some spontaneous suggestions: Doc Stern, one eyed Jack, Rocketmaster, Reflex, Tyron, Cytron, Tes, Spector, Gobtron, Lorn, Crush, Mega, Ice, Iron Mess, Garega, Ternion, Pirate, Cold Hand, Calcine, tempest, Fireball, Shadow, Sonic Beam ... something which has to do with frags or other ingame content, like bomber ball.

To persiflage the names of famous testosteron powered action heroes from this kind of movies or other games could also be an option, like: enormous Stan, Cruise Jilles, Fester Marone, Mara Soft, ... something in this direction. This could bring some easy humor to the game.
These are only spontanous ideas, just to show my direction of thinking. Other ideas are absolutely welcome.

Even though it can look less creative not giving names to bots, it is more neat and less confusing than pretending some characters, since there is no storyline.

P.S.: I know they will have a bot icon (at least).

I personally think that foreign names (Russian, Spanish, etc) would be a great addiction as our playerbase is from all over the world as well. However, I don't talk for quin, and it's his choice in the end which make it and which don't.

I think generic/fantasy names, that dont particularly sound like real names from somewhere in the world, would be the best fit. For RegEx fans is a great name creation tool at http://www.rinkworks.com/namegen/ If we want to go with real names, they should come from different languages.

But a name is not enough to give personality, they also need characteristics, imo.
I dont know what is influenced under the hood by bot skill, but I assume, it influences everything similar. So, a bot is a lazy jumper AND a bad aimer at weak skill - or - a good dogder AND a good aimer at high botskill level.

So, we could randomize this more. (Assuming it isnt like this already, else just skip this part)
For each characterics, assign a value independent of the other ones. The overall botskill can be the average of all single skill values (a bit weighted maybe, a good aim is more important than most other things, for example).

I think it would be funny if during a match impressions arise like "Ah this is bot NameXY, he is standing much, easy to hit" or "No, bot NameABC again did an almost impossible hit on me!".

Nah, quin said we mostly need more names, so it can't hurt to brainstorm more (and the names I listed were the first quin added himself, I thought it was useful to add them, should've been more clear, sorry!)

I agree, it feels more like playing online with people who are easier or harder to get. Or when a bot has a high skill level and dominates me, I would surely go after him because I can't have it that a bot just runs over me

I like it! Especially Tyron, Tes, Spector, Cytron, Tempest, and Doc Stern. They bring a lot of life and character to the bots.

RE doesn't have an official story yet, but I think we've got a fairly consistent theme for the most part. We know:
- It's set in the future and people are fighting
- There are a lot of old, run-down insdustrial places like Forge, Pumpstation, Venus, Biolytic, and others; could be due to invasion/outbreak, after-effects of war, rough life for pioneers on distant colonies;
- There's some commercialism, like the billboards on Ubik;
-There is an 'infected' scourge (grunts) but most of the fighting is between players;
-Players are divided into not only 2 teams, but occasionally 4, and sometimes it's a free-for-all.

We don't quite know who the players are or where they got their nice armor, but I'd say it's reasonable to guess they're some kind of mercenaries or warlords, fighting either for warring factions or just for themselves on a lawless, bloody frontier.

In the end, it's up to Quin to decide the details of the story, but it's likely that the story will fit into this theme. Personally, I like thinking there's a story behind the fighting, and I'm really glad that Quin and the Devs have kept with the theme; they've certainly been a lot more faithful than many other twitch games, and it's something that makes Red Eclipse unique and interesting.

Like i can see Ioanna is name-synonym of Jane, Joan. And after translating i get John somehow.
And i see "Isaac" in the male list twice.
