Oh gosh, I hadn't realized people were thinking about these items to boost stats or something... that sounds horrifying in my eyes, lol, sorry.
Between that and the already psuedo-class-based game RE has already become with the arena/classic switch, that'd be quite the departure from the game it originally was. Might be enough to push people over the edge as far as wanting to play it. Heck, almost enough to push me over the edge as much as I dislike saying that. : ( If you go into a game looking for a certain fix and it changes to the point that that goes away, so too does the incentive to play it.
All my opinion though of course. Maybe I'm in the minority in thinking these things would be heading in the wrong direction.
On a separate note, regarding those who think purely cosmetic items would be too goofy -- there's a "forceplayermodels" command or something similar that would solve that. The game could be as silly or as sombre as you want it to be then. Could just implement a button in the player setup menu that uses that command.
