Putting some ideas here from IRC for further discussion.
a) "personal note" feature
Things can go quick in game and once the chat scrolls, for most players that don't have access to server logs, incidents vanished.
Introduce a command like /note <cn> <text> that writes into a protocol.log or notes.log text file in /my games/red eclipse. It add lines with server name and IP, timestamp, player name and IP (the one you specified by cn) and your <text>.
As addition to that (but not exactly necessary) it would be nice if this file can be exposed ingame like autoexec.cfg. The header of this part of options can be renamed to ".cfg & .log" or so, and autoexec.cfg will be just one tab there, and notes.log another. Maybe there will be other text files that are useful to be included there as well.
This way, a player could create a note, go in options, copy paste the IP out of it and bring it in chat or foum or whereever, all without the need to open a text editor inbetween. But as I said, that 2nd part might not be worth the efford.
b) Moderator IRC channel
Access only for helpers, mods, admins here, possible uses:
- internal discussion of problem cases, players, etc
- being able to criticize each other without damaging reputation in the public
- each mute/kick/ban could be forwarded in this channel
- if there is a /report <cn> <reason> command, maybe working similar to the above mentioned /note, this could be forwarded here as well
