Modelling SubForum

I wonder if it is'nt time to have Modelling related subforum, seperate from maps and mods (call it something like RE Model Works, RE ModelWerks, RE Model Lab...). It would concentrate modelling work in one place and it fits in with the concept of developing common content. At the moment models are posted in a rather higgly piggly fashion (I know I am guilty of it)

The first post would be sticky and have links to models and collections, the cube modelling guide and other relevent resources. I would be happy to help with that. After that people would make a post for each model as they work on them. It is simple and I think it would work better than what we have now.

I agree with cdxbow, a model section, with tutorials included would be very pratical.

I'm really not sure there's enough modding discussion going on to warrant splitting these two topics apart. To me, the whole forum moves quite slowly, as we only have a handful of active participants each day. I only say this because people don't use search, if you create more folders and split more topics up most people will never sift through them. This in turn creates extra support stresses for myself and the team, not to mention it pushes the latest threads on the front page down another 100px.

Shot down in flames for a mere 100 pixels! It's going to get messy.

I know it will, and when the need arises we will adjust accordingly. It isn't hard to move topics into a new subforum when it is created. KISS: "Keep it simple, stupid". Get the level of activity up in the area of modelling and that will surely change, but so far the only real modelling discussions of any merit at the moment are those which you have started :P

That said, did you want a MekArcade forum of your own on FGD? Or are you happy just collaborating here and sharing resources for now?

Please Mr Quin, I would like to stay safely nestled in the bosum of RE. And as you know I am keen to build up the 'common content' and the skills base to build and maintain it. I think also we are getting significant interest in the modelling side, and you know my belief in capitalising on momentum.

Why not a "RESOURCE: Modeling" thread instead?

I'd say collaborate up to the point where MekArcade is easily distinguished from RE and go from there. Speaking of break-offs, when did RE (/Blood Frontier) split off the Sauerbraten community?

Yes, certainly a possibility.

Yeah, the FGD admins have cautioned me against adding a bunch of topic-specific subforums, lest we end up looking like OpenDungeons.
