Thoughts about a mapcollection

Since the amount of maps for RE is still growing, the idea of an official mappack seems to come back to the radar. After quick searching I saw that wowies thread was closed already. So why not come back? I've read the suggestion of making a list about the maps which will stay in RE, which will gone and which will come. Parallel there could grow these new and old collection of maps. My thought was to find a server owner who is ready to call his server after the collection and load these maps up, ready for playing. This collection would include newer maps, near enough to the official state, but also older RE classics which may fall out. The goal should be to give the community an online access, to play these maps. There was also the idea (not by me) to vote in the forums or elsewhere for map candidates, worth to think about for me. Surely my ideas are not new, but this could be the place to point everything out.

If there is a dedicated server owner who likes that thoughts: be welcome :).

:::edit:::

To avoid misunderstandings afterwards, I've enunciated ambiguous: I talk about voting for maps. I meant this in coherence to the mapcollection, not to the selection of official maps.

Voting on maps probably won't ever happen; I watch the forums and keep tabs on everything already, very few people have the skills necessary to determine if a map is release-worthy. It's more than just about how it looks.

Yes, a true argument. You decide about the incoming maps this was out of question for me. About the voting: I merely picked up a thought from somebody (can't remember where I read it here) and meant only the content of a possibly additional pack. It was not my intention to convey a wrong impression. My point was more to give online access to the maps which may be sorted out (classics), together with new ones, coming in a good quality, worth enough for a collection (maybe not good enough for offical release ?). You can call this maybe semi-official. If a new release of Re means that some of the older maps have to go, why not hold them alive? Why not add some very good new ones, which have a good quality as a minimum ? There should be a minimum of quality of course (the look wasn't my criterion in this coherence..), which also brings up the question: who decides about the quality of these additional maps? Or better: Is there a demand anyway ? ...

The place was thought for such questions.

The good thing is that putting unofficial or deprecated maps on a game server and marking them as such is straight forward to do, and anyone interested in such maps can test them online and decide later whether to keep or delete the downloaded content.

This reminds me of trial servers, where the situation is a bit special: Low quality trial maps can be great to add some variety, and they don't have to look polished if the geometry allows a good run experience. So what may fail badly for considerations of official content can still be an enrichment for niche gameplay.
