Where can I find players?

Where can I find players?

Postby Rydra » 30 Oct 2012, 01:13

Hi, I really enjoy Red Eclipse, I've never seen a so cool fast-paced game. However, I find very few players at the time I connect. Is there any way or platform where I can find more RE players, or times?

Greetings!

First off, let me welcome you to the world of Red Eclipse, I'm glad you're enjoying your time here.

As for your problem, well, yes, the amount of players is often quite small (you can see how many players are online where on some website I forgot, hopefully someone else can link it) and this is often annoying if you want to play. Luckily, there are a few ways to "solve" this.

For starters, you could invite your friends to play with you, maybe even invite them over to your place (assuming you have cool friends who like cool games). You could also play online against bots, or you could join the Red Eclipse IRC channel (#redeclipse of FreeNode, you can quickly connect by clicking here: http://www.redeclipse.net/chat) to see if there is anyone online who would like to play with you.

Of course, these options don't always work out, and unfortunately the community of this game is somewhat small so, if you have the opportunity to promote it a bit to people who live in your timezone, you will have more people to play with.

Unfortunately, these are all the tips I can give you, so I hope they work out for you well enough. Hopefully I'll be able to see you in-game once =^.^=
Hats, Afros, wings and raptor feet. This game is showing progress indeed.

Yeah, be welcome to the community of Red Eclipse.
Usually the most players come in the evening from the view of europe :). It depends probably on whether where do you live on the planet and your timezone. Probably you have set your serverlist to auto search already ? I only mention it, because I forgot it myself sometimes :) . Mostly there are only 1-2 servers assigned, and some individuals are spread to 1 or two other servers. That's the normal situation. Xonotic, open arena, alien arena, Warsow or how they are ever called, may have more people online, but this doesn't disturb me personally. I like this kind of gameplay a bit more than the others :).
Additional to the hints of TheLastProject you could try to play a popular gamemode on a server of your choice with bots first. My experience is that after some minutes one player comes, followed by more and more others. This may have different reasons. My assumption: I play (not alone this) instagib relatively often. There are many others who like that also. So probably they come, because they remeber my nick and know I would also vote for their mode.

Welcome, Rydra. If you are new to the game and play on times where only few others are online, I suggest to try some time trial. I am sure some trial enthusiast will join in and help you learn the advanced movement techniques, which will also help in regular games. Otherwise, the game mode can be surprisingly entertaining even when solo, I like it much more than chasing bots :)

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome :D. I see that by the evening there is a decent amount of players to play with. I will try convicing some friends. Right now I'm showing one the difference with Xonotic and he is getting really interested on this game (or maybe I'm good at convincing people :P).

Thanks for all the answers. Greetings!

Are you Reticent, who I played with earlier? GG's, I am sorry i had to leave so abruptly. Welcome, I'm glad you found the forum. a lot of players sadly do not :/

Unfortunately, what I told you earlier is true - We are a small community. Being open-source and a free game does not allow us to pay for advertising, you see?
What you see is what you get, there is no secret IRC "#pickup" channel like Xonotic or Warsow. The most players I have seen online is around 35 awhile back. However, I am fine and happy with this; all the regular players get to "know" each other, and despite this our community is still bigger than ever.
However, if you want to help with this, you can always get more involved; join a clan( such as mine! :)), try out the editor, and most importantly, spread the word to your friends!

And finally, thanks a bunch for the compliments! It always helps, and remember you are always free to try and improve RE yourself. I personally love a good Xonotic duel once in a while, but that's personal preference ;)

It really depends on the time/day you are playing, also, welcome to Red Eclipse and the forums.

Actually there are many servers.

Are you sure that you're using the latest version 1st September 2012 v1.3.1 (Galactic Edition)?

If you play on it, they will come. This I think is true of many games. I've never seen a game so customizable as RE, though it seems limited by the size of the community in general.

the other day it occurred to me that we should have a poll to find out the average time of day players play. Of course, this is affected by where they live as well.
