Looking for help with audio editing.

I've been thinking about making a bunch of v-key voices and turning them into a modpack, and have been playing around with audacity and my gaming headset...
Although I can use change pitch + vocoder for a quickly made low/medium quality robotic sounding voice, I want to go a step or two further.
To those of you with (or without) audio editing experience: How would you suggest making a voice sound exactly like the in-game v-key voices?
I lost the game.

I use NCH Wavepad Sound Editor Master Edition for all my audio ventures :D it doesn't have that many audio features but it makes due. It does have this little feature that allows me to make something sound robotic. To be honest, I have been looking to go further into audio editing myself.

BTW, what is your gaming headset you use?

Some cheap off brand, it's not important. The important part is if I record at night when there's less noise pollution, I can get almost crystal clear audio after applying a noise filter.
That also isn't important since we will be adding noise to the voices anyway.

Audacity is the only sound editor I've ever used, and is also on PortableApps.
It has a lot of dropdown menus. A LOT. The "Effects" dropdown goes from the top of my screen all the way to the bottom when I look at it.
I lost the game.
