"Free" weapon control

"Free" weapon control

Does anyone actually use this?

If so, how?
If not, are there any plans for modes or mutators where it might be useful?

Options > Mouse > Input Style
One of the options is "free", if you select it your gun/aim is under direct control of your mouse and your view sort of follows it if it's pointing off-center.

Feels like it's part of some other thing that has much slower players than RE...

It allows you to use other input methods, like tablets and wiimotes. You are quite correct though, neither input style is very good for the fast pace of RE, but its an option.

I think the "panned" option should be made into a mutator: "Drunken"
I'd love to see Drunken-Instagib :D

Tablets and Wiimotes? Wow, sounds like you really planned for this game in the longrun. Red Eclipse for Wii perhaps? :D I'd play it over mario anyday lol

By tablet, I mean the little pen thing you can get for your computer. You can also connect a Wiimote to a PC via bluetooth, which was the original intent (at the time I added it, I was playing with such things).

I'd help getting RE on the wii... but aiming with a wiimote is so dang hard! I've played quake, and oh my gosh! But the real problem is 729 MHz on the wii. There could be a wiimote only server I guess.

RE on the wii is a very scary thought.

Also panned and free camera are good for cinematic angles if recording (turn mouse sensitivity way down).
