Wishlist for 1.3

Imagine, you're allowed to give a list of up to three things you want added/changed. What would be on your list? (You are allowed to list other changes that you consider less important as well).
My personal top 3:
- New weapon models (the current ones don't look that awful, but the pistol definitely looks of much higher quality than the other weapons and it would add to the overall feeling)
- Survivor readded to CTF/BB/DTF (in a style of "everyone on a team died = 1 point for other team / capture = 1 point for team capturing -> new round started after both scenarios)
-
More voting optionsOther things:
- The ability to use "friendly" voice commands. Something like "good job" instead of "suck it" (I'm not really the kind of person to use those "unfriendly" commands)
- New mode? (I heard quin and orbitaldecay are busy working on a
greed mode, which can be quite interesting)
Well, that's my list. What's yours?

Hmmm, i didn't know Survivor was removed from the non deathmatch modes..I'll +1 for that. Although, isn't there a variable to just allow any mutator to be chosen with any gametype? Or was that just the instagib vampire combination?
I think better weapon models and player models should be in the works for 1.3 if there was any such change needed for this game, seeing as this game is damn near perfect as far as balancing and simplicity goes

Oh and here are some small ideas I was thinking about:
1. In multi, possibly only allowing maybe 3 teams versus 4 by choice. For example, when Multi is chosen, at the bottom there are two choices. Three teams or Four. This is so that three sided maps (like Isolation) are slightly more balanced.
2. Also for multi, if when people with the same clan tag come in, be put on the same team. A good example of this is if 2 FDs, 3 Frogs, and 3 Wazus came into the same server and multi automatically sorted them onto the same team based on their clan tag (certain combination of characters in your name)
3. Allowing players to join a team BEFORE spawning instead of spawning on to a random team based on team balance. This is similar to the second one, but probably less complicated. Number 2 sounds slightly more complicated; you could always just place yourself on the right team after spawning. These are just tiny suggestions. Would be nice.

Two things, in my opinion...
1) The SMG needs to be buffed a bit. Its secondary is pretty useful, but the primary is a pea-shooter compared to its former self. There is absolutely no use for it when compared to the pistol's primary, which is quite deadly. I'm not sure if it's the lack of accuracy or the low damage output, but trying to kill anyone with the SMG primary alone is near impossible. (The rest of the weapons are perfectly balanced, don't change a thing.

)
2) Okay. This more personal preference than anything. But whatever. Graphically the game is fairly well developed. It's aesthetically pleasing, the HUD and GUI are spot-on, the weapon models and player model(s) are good enough for now, though a new set of models would be nice, following the pistol and such. My one complaint is about a piece of the first-person perspective that I feel is missing: LEGS. We already have the model and the animation, wouldn't it be possible to tack that on to the bottom of the player's view to appear somewhat like Halo or Tribes or Crysis (surely someone here has played one of those)? I've been ranting about this "feature" for perhaps a steady year now, maybe that means I should just give up.

Opinions, anyone?

1) The ability to tweak offline play a bit more, changing things such as number of bots, skill of bots, time limit, etc ... (for those of use who like to create our own challenges)
2) Falling injury ... when players fall from large buildings, they don't suffer any HP loss ... I think adding that would be nice ... (adds some realism)
3) Movement sounds ... such as breathing, footsteps, jump breaths, near-death deep inhaling ... (adds some atmosphere)
EDIT: I was playing just now and a few more suggestions came to mind:
a) Change "Play online" and "Offline play" to 'Multiplayer' and 'Single player'.
b) Aiming down sights! How awesome would it be if you could look down the sights on the pistol or SMG?

I think v1.2 is spot-on, but I read some suggestions in this thread and collected my personal 3 favourites out of them:
1) Tweak offline play: maybe a tabbed configuration option? 1 tab for map choice (there might be a short description or suggested numbers of players for the map specified), the other tab can tweak the number of bots, the mutators, bot skill, ...)
2) Greed mode.
3) Weapon models would be nice, although I don't mind the v1.2 models too much. the pistol really is kick-ass though!

My wish list:
Cross hairs, omg! In every game I play i use a simple small dot crosshair, I am able to achieve something close to this in red eclipse but then I don't have an indicator of whats in my clip... I simply can not aim with all that stuff attached to my crosshair so i am forced to guess whats in my clip... I believe i am not alone at this because dot crosshairs are used almost exclusivly at pro lvls on many games.. this is a deal breaker for me.
Better menu organization, I am not sure what widgets you guys got going but it seems like you could employ a few more... It'd be nice to see a drop down box for maps. Mutators should have there own dialog, it looks so confusing to just create a room. as a total newbie i was like "wthell" when i saw it.. It also requires a bit of thinking/psychic abilitys to figure out if that you have to click that squarish image of the map to get it to start, and i think for voting too.
Better way to contact people, private messages through the master server so i can tell my buddy to come play with me. Also a "friend" feature would be epic, alerting me when one comes on/leaves the game
The sword seems to need some work, this is a high speed game its pretty damn hard to hit someone with a sword, and when I do im rewarded with very little damage..
I'd like to see shielding system, have the shield recharge but NOT the health! this would make running like a bitch less effective. Also it'd make way for a new weapon, the healing gun!
healing gun: shoots a lil squiqly blue ray thing that heals people but not the user, alternative fire can be a similar red lazerish thing that drains a semi-small amount of health from the target and gives it to the shooter, both fires should be very limited range.
one of the games I is an old game called gunz, and 90% of the time im playing something the players invented called "Attack and defend". Its a TDM game where each team spawns in something that resembles a base, with one life. The teams take turns attacking or defending. The base is on a platform and although u can wallrun (and wallpost, basicly u can bounce off the wall over and over again firing at ppl), but touching the ground in other then your base is considered cheating, and most of the time ur kicked from the room if you cheat. You could take it one step farther tho and make the floor do a large amount of damage(maybe even insta kill) if the wrong team steps on it.. I have spent so, so, so many hours playing this "game mode" and would love to see it in red eclipse. It'd do really with the "arena" setting.
If you took the time to read this, thanks! I really like red eclipse and I think the things above might be whats needed to truly get this thing rolling.

TheLastProject {l Wrote}:- New weapon models (the current ones don't look that awful, but the pistol definitely looks of much higher quality than the other weapons and it would add to the overall feeling)
1 - New, high-res, with lights, reflections and effects of the weapons. The sword too. In SMG add a lantern because the main deaths with this weapon is in short distance. DIFFICULT (IN MY OPINION): Hard-too work
2 - Ability to see one's legs when looking down.
Ability to see one's legs when looking down. with the same player model outfit. DIFFICULT: MEDIUM-HARD

And other wishlist features.

- disabling this awful flashing-colours chat would be great (either as personal display option or just take it out)
- when you are dead and spectating, and scroll through players, skip the dead ones, so that you just switch between the alive ones (good for survivor on a full server)
- show how many clients are connected to the server browser list, if that is possible. Helps a bit deciding if it is worth idling on an empty server for a while in hope for some other players joining, or if its better to look in later again.

Oh, YES! PLEASE YES! Seeing iamanidiotbad's abuse of this feature literally kills my eyes. Please do not allow chat colors at all, just have the chat one color at all time.

Ah, good to know, I'll be putting that in my autoexec.cfg file. Any chance of this being the default in 1.3?

The game needs better weapon models, and better first person animations! They look really cheap and lifeless at the moment and don't have much movement. The pistol model is a great step into the right direction (the animation still sucks, though), but the other models must to be replaced too.

Another neat improvement for v1.3 would be a preview of the chosen player model (male / female)

The player model including the color instead of the huge Red Eclipse icon placeholder-like thingy sounds like a great idea.

My ideas:-Disable the radar when the Rifle is zoomed, is more tactical. Also have a different crosshair when zoomed, gives a feeling of really zooming with the weapon. Something like this:
http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs51/i/2009/ ... nnen36.jpg-Improved sounds for the rifle.
-Improved player models.
-Slightly more polished HUD. The FPS counter sometimes overlaps the weapon boxes, some reorganization might be needed. Maybe get rid of the "killbox" (peter123 killed charles321 blabla), it distracts a lot and the player already gets a popup when he killed someone.
-Have selectable Fists (as weapon) by default. Example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZKXirmT-ekStuff above I would like:-Legs in first-person
-Weapon model improvements (especially for the Plasma gun, Rifle and Rocket launcher)
-Easier to use sword (give it a little lunge?)
-Preview of player model in the main menu instead of giant Red Eclipse button
-Falling injuries when jumping from (very) big heights
-Movement/breathing/hurt-sounds, helps "connect" with the game
Thanks for the awesome work, this game is very addicting, it is a shame not many people are online.

EDIT: I changed this post a couple of times already, the changes are above.

I have for now 2 wishes for 1.3:
1) real-time shadows (like in doom 3)
Why? because if you edit a map and you want to add a light entity, you won't need to calculate the lightmap or the shadows
2) Seeing your body in first person perspective (Legs, Torso for ex)
EDIT:
better shaders
vehicles (for huge maps)
Over-Shoulder Third Person perspective

Stuff above I would like:

Red Eclipse is not Halo. If you want Halo, go play Halo.
Also, what's wrong with the current HUD? It was literally JUST redone. And furthermore, what's wrong with color? Also, there are
no aliens in Red Eclipse.

He's right. Seriously, halo's like twenty bucks. You can even find it for lower in some places.
The other thing i can +1 is the whole "seeing legs when looking down" thing. If that's possible, that'd be cool and i really don't see any cons towards it either.

I have all the Halo games, lol.
The legs, sword and stuff are indeed Halo, but also pretty much every other game, and they will make the game more enjoyable.
The HUD is sometimes a bit confusing, in Halo (*puts flamesuit on*) the HUD is very clear, in Red Eclipse it is kinda busy and not always very readable.
The non-flashy chat is just a standard in games. Quake, Urban Terror, Counterstrike and what ever all have a very neutral chat.
The different crosshair for zooming should be the default, no command, think as a new player, a good first impression is everything.
And if the models in RE aren´t Aliens, what are they?
And you haven´t quoted everything, meaning you like some of them?
This game is so new I thought comparing it with other games and with that also improving the game would be logical.
But for some reason almost every open source game community is very hostile.

Glennz, the RE community isn't hostile at all. We get along nicely and work together /come up with ideas to improve the game. The devs are open to anything, you'll learn that when you hang around a little longer.
There is nothing wrong with new ideas, but nothing too drastically.
HUD is just redone and it is a big improvement over the old one. You'll get used to it and I never had problems with it tbh.
Colored chat is a positive point to me. I like it, I don't understand why it upsets so many players.
Legs or not, I don't care. But when there will be legs, I hope they move naturally.
The RE player model is supposed to be androngynous. It's a bit open to the imagination of the player. There is only one male and one female model, I agree that it some more could make it more attractive to new players, but personally I like seeing only 1 model. I also force this in Sauerbraten.
Anyway, RE has it's own look and feel and we should keep it that way. Don't fix it if it isn't broken...

Most open-source game communities will indeed turn very hostile if you mention other (commercial) games in a feature request thread. Why? Well, because the goal of a project like this is not to reimplement one of those other games, but to create something unique. Don't make people think you want them to create a Halo/CoD/whatever clone. Even if that's totally not what you want, they will get that feeling, and they will get upset.

I am a brand new player, just downloaded the game 3 days ago.
Of course I compare this game with others I have played.
If you look at my ideas, think "First impression is everything", thinking like "Oh well there´s a command for that, oh well this aint Cod" doesn´t work.
Some of my ideas are from Halo and Urban Terror, some just myself.
"Red Eclipse is not Halo. If you want Halo, go play Halo." is really hostile, in my opinion, especially for a newbie.
Cod and Halo (two name two popular) both have a little lunge when using knife/sword, pretty much every FPS has visible legs in First-person.
Also I said the HUD could use some more polish, I didn´t say it was horrible.
I just don´t get it.
Lets´t keep it short now, I don´t want to ruin a topic just three days after creating an account.

You can already impulse dash, and if you do so with the sword you will actually land a critical hit every time. So as you can see, there are already mechanics in place which are quite mutually exclusive with your suggestion.
Please realise people aren't intending to be hostile, though they may be defensive about this unique game they've grown to love. We are, after all, an open source project. We have very few resources at our disposal and do quite a lot already with very little. We've discussed the HUD on the forums in the past, and while I gradually improve it over time, I am not going to rewrite it to match some other game - the HUD for RE was designed to be used "at-a-glance", using colours and providing you pertinent information where your eyes are focused (the crosshair).
There are variables for everything in RE, so that people can tune the interface and the entire game to their liking, but the defaults are how we intend things to be by design. If there is a specific alteration you are after, we can either provide you with the necessary variable to change, or add one to give you the desired effect (feature turnaround in this community is quite fast, for a Lead Developer in an FOSS community, I am quite liberal and friendly).
That being said, I know people in FOSS communities can sometimes come off quite hostile, but as far as projects go, this is one of the friendliest out there; mainly because I stay close to the community and try to set a good example as the leader. It's best not to judge an entire community based on a couple of comments from a few players. Also realise that if you're new around here, you may not understand why things are the way they are, but we usually have a pretty good reason behind all our design decisions (and quite often they are put to a poll here on the forums so everyone can have their say).
Anyway, I hope that helps enlighten you a bit. Try not to take things so seriously, this is the internet after all
