Let's meet on Orbi sever. (or propose another hour)

Why don't we make this a weekly event? SVN Sundays?

Sounds like a good idea, if there are at least a few people that can join around that time normally.

I like Red Eclipse, but I can't be arsed to download a SVN client for one video game. I'll probably grab it with 7zip at some point, but even that method is somewhat inconvenient. It would make a lot more sense to provide a regular HTTP link for updates on a regular basis. I don't understand why that is not already the case.

Um, that's pretty much what orbital described in the topic post, no?

Tarballs obviously means a lot of duplicate downloading, and hence, SVN is basically the simplest solution to implement incremental upgrades, I don't get the antipathy towards it on that basis :?

Because it's the same apathy that prevents everyone from taking 10 seconds to google "SVN" and find out what it does, why it's convenient, and why archiving and uploading a tarball of every single revision of an entire game, would be a waste of time and bandwith, not to mention extremely inconvenient and moronic.

Hell, you can even download the stable releases when they're finally launched. They're still revisions. And with the beauty of SVN, you wouldn't have to download the entire package all over again. SVN update to that revision, and it only downloads what you need. The fact that no one can take a whole 10 - 20 minutes of their time (it's a lot, I know) to get even the most basic familiarity with SVN...is just sad, really. Especially in an open source community.

Bah. End rant.

For *Ubuntu-Users:
Removing the word debian from the names of the SDL packages made compiling much more enjoyable for me ;)

Oh, crud, my bad. In fact, the package "libsdl1.2debian-dev" does not exist anywhere, period, you'd use libsdl1.2-dev on Debian as well, I've updated the wiki accordingly.

Just wanted to bump this (see top post) and let everyone know that my bleeding edge server is up and stable again (edit: that is, my machine is stable), so go use it and let Quin know what you think.
