Bomber Ball Settings

Currently in bomber ball, the bomb must be carried to the goal. There is a "basket" mutator that allows players to throw the bomb into the goal. Should this be changed? Should players be able to shoot as the default behavior providing a "no basket" mutator? See the discussion here viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2036

This may seem trivial, but (as far as I know) there is no way to force a mutator to be used -- this means that currently it is possible to run a bomber ball server that allows basket, but it cannot be enforced (so players can start a game with basket turned off). If this was changed, it would be possible to force basket on all the time.

It's nice to see that people generally think the ball should be shot in the goal by default. It does make it easier. I remember when i first played bomber ball and i tried to shoot it (because it looked like the goal could be shot in) and the map was Depot. I didn't realize that the "basket" mutator wasn't on, or the fact that there is a mutator that turns it on or off. And not to mention that Depot is not the best map for Basket anyway.

I think this might be a cultural thing too - as americans, "bomber ball" immediately makes us think "basketball", or maybe american football - some players from other cultural backgrounds might not think about it in the same way.

Yeah i can believe that. But the term "shoot" i don't think just applies to a basket. In fact, just the name "basket" is loosely defining the goal. Because you can shoot a ball into a goal in soccer. So perhaps people all over the world can understand my plea to have this changed because the most popular sport in the world requires you to "shoot" the ball anyway. And soccer is incredibly popular in most countries. Of course, RE isn't a sports game, but it's nice to have some similar aspect of a sport, or many sports combined to make this game well-rounded.

Sometimes I wonder what the next new gametype will be...

RE certainly isn't a sports game, but in my opinion, a first person shooter is the closest to a sport you can get that's unique to gaming (disregarding actual sports games, which I personally find insufferably boring). Bomber Ball, being an excellent twist on the old CTF, is perfect for this game with its parkour and pulse rifles, making it some kind of mix of Mirror's Edge, Halo(?), Quake, and basketball. Who doesn't want to play that?!
