Does This Game Run on a Netbook?

Is Red Eclipse lightweight enough to run on a fairly standard netbook (1.6GHz Intel Atom, 1-2GB RAM, Integrated graphics)?

I'm on pretty much the same boat as you, bro. Luckily, yes it can. I have nearly identical specs to that, and on lowest possible settings, Red Eclipse runs pretty solid for the most part. More intense battles with more people, and bigger maps (and even bath and Foundry cause low FPS due to the high poly count). Though I've been experimenting a lot, and High res player models surprisingly doesn't drop FPS much, if at all. (for me anyway)
Just start on all lowest settings, and work up from there. I would recommend keeping all water properties off (despite one being green, it's still intensive) and using the lower quality decals, if at all.
You MAY get by with Dynamic Lights. I've had them on recently, and have noticed a bit of a drop in battles, but I'm not sure if it wasn't some other factor on my machine.

It runs on Windows, Mac, And Linux (well, forms of it at least). The game never knows whether or not you are playing on a desktop or laptop. I say if you want to play Red Eclipse and you only own a netbook, go for it. Although, as you may know, netbooks aren't really the gaming type.

But if anyone knows of any "gaming" netbooks, send a link. I'd like to look it up. :D

Alright thanks all - I've been considering getting a netbook, but I wasn't going to unless Red Eclipse ran on it :)

Inpersona:
"Gaming" netbooks are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and not really worth the cost. That said, one of the main reasons I'm getting one myself is for portable gaming; games like the original Deus Ex, Half Life, Team Fortress Classic, Battlefield 1942, Morrowind, even Far Cry all run perfectly fine on a netbook, which is A VERY NICE THING.

On a good netbook, yeah. You'll definitely need to pay a bit, but not as much for a gaming desktop, obviously. You should check out ibuypower.com
Haven't been there in forever, but last I saw, you could build or just order a premade gaming laptop for ~$1000. If that.

You know, I hear a lot of mixed views on pre-built computer sales. Some say it is ok to buy one. Some say I should build it from scratch. Is there any right way?

I bought a HP Elite desktop, pre-built. It's not terribly upgradeable (smallish case-size), but I recently managed to shove in a better graphics card (GTX 560 Ti) and 600watt power supply to fuel it.

The only cons are that a) HP installs a bunch of its own useless bloatware that just takes up some space on your hard drive, b) limited choice in terms of components, and c) HP is quitting the PC business. If you don't trust yourself to build a PC (which is not that hard), then go ahead and buy a pre-built one.

Which is why you shouldn't buy from HP at all.

It runs perfectly fine on those specs, mine are worse on my development machine and it runs fine.

That would have been nice to have when I removed the bloatware from mine and my sister's laptops. (we both have crappy HP-Compaqs...save our souls -_-)
