Map Showcase

In light of all the recent new maps that most of us have created, I've decided to start a new series on my Youtube page called "Map Test". I basically just play these created maps that our fellow RE community members have made. I will usually just record with FRAPS some gameplay (standard arena team deathmatch) and the recording I try to keep under 5 minutes. This way, you can quickly get a taste of the map and I'm not wasting anyone's time lol.

So I opened this thread so people can post links to their maps for the rest of the community to play, as well as get their maps noticed. Who knows, maybe one of the maps will end up in the next release of RE. :)

So post those maps people. Completed maps of course, not beta or unfinished maps.

That's awesome man, I would love to see more new maps on the forums and on servers. I'd be glad to put any new maps up on the servers I run, just shoot me a message :)

I agree. Quad Arena might be fun to play.

My map is outdoor in a temple setting. I'm just finishing up the lighting and need to add some sounds and camera placements to it. In a few days it should be ready and I will post it here. :)

In my opinion, Quad Arena has movement flow issues. Either it is too small, or it is trying to cram too many things that turn to obstacles into a small space.

Really? Cause it could just have been me. Either way, It's brought me to a solution, i have to turn up the botskill level. If I don't feel so much threat, I won't be inclined to use every portion of the map. I'll try that for the next map I test.

How about some 1920x1080 screenshots? http://imgur.com/a/9j85H#Mr4o7

They give a nice view of the layout of the maps (psst... anyone know how to turn off ALL of the UI?)

EDIT: Someone get this in Red Eclipse NOW http://quadropolis.us/node/392

Ooooh pretty :) my monitor likes your enthusiasm!

I'm glad someone posted how to turn off all the UI because It would look nice to make montages without the HUD. It would be like Hardcore mode in COD. A true test of skills.

Btw, nice screenshots.

After playing QuadArena more extensively, I have to agree with Quin.
Please disregard my previous post (I got too excited to see new maps for RE :)).

The QuadArena map itself is very fun to play but has some problems with the flow.
I've taken some screens of the areas that I think are creating conflicts:
  1. The blocks in the middle:
    Image
    Possible solutions:
    • Maybe so:
      Image
    • Or so:
      Image
  2. Another problem is the little tower in the middle:
    Image
A suggestion of mine, would be to make it a tad bigger or remove it and only leave the jumppad there.
  3. Finally:
    Image
These spots (marked with a red stripe) are somewhat annoying, also bots tend to get stuck on that areas.
  4. Also, the bunkers/bases could have some different colors, to give a better orientation to the player.

Finally, let me say that I enjoyed playing in this map, because of it I made up this post.
Hope I helped ;)

===EDIT===
I almost forgot:

Here is another map ctf_doppelfort2 (by John_III) that you could add to your showcase:

Here's a map I have been tapping away at, on and off, for a while. Older fans may recognise the source of inspiration :)

Doppelfort needs another skybox and some textures are out of place I think.

Quin, looks like DUST maps from CS? :)

quin and Ulukai THOSE MAPS LOOK VERY EXCELLENT though I don't recognize either honestly. Would like some new battlegrounds, even though we have many, the current set is getting a little stale... inevitable for a twitch shooter I guess.

Done! Played it and I really do like it. The nice thing about this map is that if you are used to playing TF2 or if you have prior knowledge to the map, you have an edge on most of the newcomers to this map. Definitely a CTF map. And does follow along the thread that discussing a TF Mod.

Also, really want to try Ulukai's map when its done. and Quin's map too. :) Screen shots look awesome!

Perhaps, instead of everyone downloading maps one by one, when all of people's maps are created, like say about 10, there should be a release of RE with the maps bundled together. Like DLC map packs, sort of like what COD, Halo, and the other major titles have. Perhaps a playlist for those maps too (but thats asking for too much). Just suggesting it.

Keep the maps coming people!

That bridge & the underground passages reminds of DM-Serpentine from the UT series.

now I'm glad that I did not continue ;)

Or just a CMP (= Community Map Pack)

Thanks for the nice words, looking forward to share it with you guys :)

I don't know about a map pack. RE has a fast release cycle, why not include the greatest maps with the game itself? It's not that you have to wait half a year for new maps...
Map packs are good if there are plenty of good maps and you can bundle them in some sort of theme (DM maps, CTF maps, or outdoor maps and indoor maps, ...) but I thnik that there aren't too much community maps atm and the game can use some extra maps, maybe it's better to include them with the core game.

Maybe make the texturing a little more imaginative too. You've fallen into an FPS mapper's trap with the style you've chosen (trak set with warning trims). While I do realise we have maps that look like this already, I'd like to deter a whole bundle of similar looking maps being in the game (if you know what I mean?).

I am proud to present to you my first map: Ares. It is built in a temples setting and is called after the Greek God of War, Ares
It took me a couple dozens of hours time spread over a few weeks to build, test and tweak it and now I love to share it with you.

Included gamestyles beyond normal DM are CTF and DTF. Speed is fast and I find it to have a good flow. The map is mostly symmetric and I think that both camps are in balance.
Please feel free to tweak it further in any way if you feel the urge to, and I would be honored if my map would make it into the game eventually. Devs may always take it and change / add things where needed.

I'm open to comments and feedback, and hope you enjoy playing the map as much as I enjoyed building it. :)
There is still 1 open issue I'm aware of: I tried adding cameras for SpecTV, but for some reason SpecTV always films from other entities I placed, not the cameras. Also, on other maps I didn't see camera entities, so I just removed them after all, but then I wonder how it is done on other maps...?

Download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ger4bo9gzjf40j5

Lastly I would like to take the time to thank Quin for the generous help with tips and LuckyStrike-RX and W!ck3d Roel for the great maps included with the game that inspired me.

Dude, I played your map and...

I freaking love it!

Well detailed, good size (to my liking of course), great for Deathmatch even though I played Defend-The-Flag. I just wanted to try something different. Might try CTF on it too. Everyone should download this and give it a run around. It is a very good map man. You did well.

You can watch my play-through of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO8ecgZC0_E

I'd definitely add this map to my list of favs along with Echo, Ghost, and Keystone :)

Everyone try out this map!
