Graphics Questions

The /showgui postfx command gives the option for the bloom effect. When turned on, even at the lowest setting, light surfaces become blinding; is there any way to lower the percentage past the default lowest, which is like 35%? Also if this menu could be integrated into the graphics settings that would also be very nice.

Also a slightly related question... whilst using FRAPS to record, my FPS count drops from 200 to 25, making the game borderline unplayable for me :/ Is this the fault of FRAPS or the game engine? (Or me?)

Probably has to do with your CPU. Fraps uses a good amount of RAM as well.

Yes, you need to use the /bloom XX command, where XX is a floating point number between 0 and 1, i.e. /bloom 0.25

Also related to the /showgui postfx menu, the commands for the postfx gui options are:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
/clearpostfx
/bloom 0.3
/bloom 0.55
/bloom 0.8
/rotoscope 1
/rotoscope 1 1
/rotoscope 1 2
/setpostfx sobel
/setpostfx invert
/setpostfx gbr
/setpostfx bw
/setpostfx hblur3; addpostfx vblur3
/setpostfx hblur5; addpostfx vblur5

Particularly I enjoy using /setpostfx sobel, also /rotoscope 1 makes the game look like a Comic, very cool indeed.

Thanks fluxord, much less blinding now :)

Yeah, that's probably it; here I was thinking my Athlon X4 was fairly robust  ... plenty of RAM though, that's not the issue. Good to hear it isn't something to do with the game.

Whoa, really? 4 core? Hmmm, I was thinking Fraps would be fine for you. I plan to upgrade to a 4 core sooner or later..

I'll correct myself here: /bloom XX, XX can also be > 1.
Try something like /bloom 3 or > on Venus and you'll feel that you're playing in some kind of heaven ;)

Maybe you just need set your recording - video capture setting on higher number - this is probably the main problem.
Set 75 fps (you may have these 25) or something like this and check option - lock framerate while recording.
Also you can try record half-sized video. Is impossible that framerates drops from 200 to 25.

Lol thanks Damien; your suggestions didn't help, but they did make me take a step back and think about what the hell I was doing: trying to record Red Eclipse maxed out at a 1920x1080 resolution... with that in mind I dropped the resolution to 720p (1280x720). Bam, 40-50 FPS, totally playable.

Lol I'm sure that half-size in lieu of full-size recording has real effect in final fps. TESTED.
But if you wanted make record of full-size playing - Full-HD, I'm not surprised that you had bad fps. Really not a good idea.

Lol wow I only record low resolutions because in fraps, clips limit me to 4GB and higher res means more space. I do try to keep it widescreen tho because looks better on YouTube.

People always ask me why my graphics are low. One is because I have crappy GPU, but another reason i found is becausse I noticed in team games, when one team is supposed to be the same color, I've noticed that players have a different shade of color in them, like a red player will have some green around his armor or a blue player will have purple around them. It really throws me off. I like it when that setting is off cause then players are just one color, RED or BLUE. :)

Some stupid montage i made..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7YFoU6DzjE
