The first round match-ups of the Red Eclipse 1v1 tournament have been determined!

The tournament will be double-elimination. The default mode will be deathmatch, though you and your opponent are welcome to choose a different game mode if it pleases you. The winner will be best of three rounds. Each round will be seven minutes. Each week everyone will be paired off with another person. It is your responsibility to contact your opponent that week and schedule your match. You should both report the results of each match to me. Record your match so we can make videos and distribute them!

If you are unable to complete your match, please let me know as soon as possible! This will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

I am running the official tournament server at server.orbitaldecay.com:28793. This can easily be found in the master server list. I have e-mailed all participants with the password on this server. I have done my best to match-up timezones as effectively as possible. The first round matchups will be:

Bruce Willis /FROGTEAM vs. Abacab /FROGTEAM
Master Chief /FROGTEAM vs. Blaubaer /FROGTEAM
D.A.M.I.E.N. /FROGTEAM vs. something [Wazu]

Thank you all for the interest! Just to be clear: if you want to be kept informed, please communicate your e-mail address to me in some way. This forum only represents a small minority of the player base. The only realistic way I can communicate with everyone is through e-mail. I will attempt to keep this thread updated, but most communication regarding the tournament will not be occurring here.

For those of you who have already contacted me: I will be collecting e-mail addresses of interested people for a couple more weeks, then I will send out a mass confirmation e-mail to everyone to see who is definitely participating. At this point a roster will be assembled and the rules and format will be explained.

From my experiences, it just sounds like a disadvantage to play against a bigger number of enemies - but it is not really. I personally hate to be in the big crowd that is expected to win. So I step back from that kind of "tournament".

1 vs 1 sounds good, though, when I am not finally too old and slow for that game in August, I will participate ;-)

Yes, I plan on trying to match players up based on map and gamemode / mutator preferences. Whether or not the tournament will be only DM or mixed settings is yet to be determined (leaning toward mixed settings per match based on preferences).

Haha, me too. Small maps are clearly more reasonable here. I plan on suggesting a map for each match, but if the combatants want to play on a different map, that's fine with me (so long as they agree, obviously).

And as the tourney goes on I hope non-contestants could watch the Replays/Demos of the matches (or spectate them)

Yes, please record demos (not videos). The demos are recorded only on the server, so it's up to orby to post them here

I'll post the commands for recording demos, just to make sure everyone does it:

• /setmaster 1, or hit F5, to gain master status (required for recording).
• /recorddemo 1, to start recording.
• /stopdemo, to stop recording.

I hope we all can watch some nice fragging

I went onto a server labelled "open" and pressed F5 but I didn't get any messages telling me that I had claimed master. why might that be?
