Phanto {l Wrote}:I would make three suggestions:

1.) The server sorting list is broken. It's difficult, if not impossible, to sort servers in the list. For instance, you should be able to sort by ping, game options, maps, region serer is located in, etc.

2.) Laser Rifle should be more powerful. I feel like the laser rifle requires too many hits to get a kill. For instance, it's not uncommon to require 3 hits to get a frag. Frankly, 2 should be the most. The weapon is already difficult to use in that you need to be accurate in a fast paced game. It's also difficult since it doesn't rapid fire. Thus, the damage caused by the weapon should be larger.

3.) As one member on the forums has mentioned, the reload times for weapons are too long IMO. I feel like it slows down the game more than it should.

Overall, the game is very good. The map selection is very large, the game runs very well, it's stable, and it's free.

Do numbers 1 and 3. Cut the reload times in half or to 3/4. Add a way to 'lock' reload. If I, for example, have one bullet left, hit R, and fire before the reload is over.. I'm fucked. I just wasted all that time reloading just to accidentally fire 1/100th a second too early. If I double tap R, it should not be stoppable.

Do NOT do number 2. Rifle is powerful as it is. Two hits to kill someone? That'd be ridiculous. I already get 40-50 kills a round.. with the rifle alone. It is not hard to aim it, especially with splash damage.

I use the sword as my weapon of choice, for the reason that it is the best weapon in the game. No, wait. I've got more to say.
The sword is the best weapon in the game because of it's extrodinary hit range, despite being roughly half as tall as my character's body (meaning it would be expected to have a range of 1 metre.)
It deals massive damage when combined with a melee attack, sometimes producing 1-hit kills outside of insta-gib. And if the massive damage doesn't kill the target, their copious amount of blood loss will. Usually 1 hit will do, then I can play chase until they inevitably die. I choose not to though, because it DOESN'T LOOK LIKE TOTAL BULLCRAP then.
And that's exactly why the sword is the best weapon in the game. Until something is done to balance it out, I guess I'll keep using it.

Hello! Red Eclipse has a great potential as an open-source game. Glad You chose Cube2 engine, good stuff :)
Though few stuff might be considered to change i hope.

Sound could be more war-ish, like rifles or sniper rifles just doesnt sound like any gun. Feels plastic or toy-like. I think more metal-clashing sounds would make a much better experience.

Hud is very complicated and has too many digits and text. I think there should be less text and highly colored panels and pulsing shields and all that blitzing stuff. Static, big enough, simple, yet streamlined HUD works best in FPS, I think. Hud customization in-game woud be awesome!

Double jump is a nice new idea in FPS area, though I think that it is a bit IMBA to have that ability just after you double jumped already. There should be something like double jump charge-time or timeouts. That would balance game a lot.

Movement could be a bit slower and sprint system shoud be implemented.

Maps with round corners and less buildings would make experience a bit more pleasant, more dynamic areas would make game more interesting (good example are UT2004 and UT3 maps).

Main menu could be customized a bit further from cube's default one.

Player Model : there should definitely more characters as it is very really irritating to see twins everywhere. Though i just love the idea you got in those. Excellent proportions, not too many polygons, works well - looks good! There could be more human-ish aspects of characters though. Bit bigger ogres, humans, heavily built marines, etc.

Thanks for developers for such a good and well built open-source project. I will try my best to contribute after I will do my summer exams!

No offense Deluxo, but I disagree with you on almost every point. I think the movement could be slowed down a bit, but I'm more of a fan of games like UT and MegaTF. Sometimes RE just gets a bit frantic. But I like the sounds, I think there are enough war games out there. I'm getting better at reading the HUD, and I've gotten used to double jumping. Some maps are better than others of course. (what I do find frustrating is that some areas that appear to be accessible, like on Ghost up high, aren't. Menus? eh, they don't effect gameplay so I don't really care all that much. And I think that making all players the same equalizes things in that regard. I like the "anonymous" bot look to them.

I like that RE seems to be focused on gameplay. I've been playing some more of the variations of gameplay, and they're a nice change from "everyone get in a room and hold down the fire button". Although that does happen from time to time. :)

I'm a veteran FPS gamer I always liked games like Cube 2 & 1, UT2004, UT2003, UT, Quake 3 & 2, Serious Sam 2 & 1...
So I have to say that Red Eclipse is my new favorite FPS game.

After playing it approximatedly a month, I decided to write my thoughts about it.

Stuff I like:
    - awesome gameplay (wall kick, wall run, impulse dash, punch & kick hell yeah ).
    - lots of modes & mutators (defend-the-flag, medieval instagib  , different CTF modes rock  ).
    - nice weapons (swords going my way  ).
    - excellent online play (even for slow connections).

Stuff I don't like (could be added/improved):
    - too few maps (needs more maps & variety of environments :eew: ).
    - only one player model (needs some more urgently).
    - some of the sounds (hitsounds particularly, the freaking piano sounds  ).
    - some weapon models could be better or more detailed (the SMG & the grenades).
    - no display of how many of the rewards you did in a game (double kill, multi kill, dominating, revenge).
    - some issues regarding GUI menus (a name changing menu, favorite servers or recent server tabs/lists, etc.)
    - some maps are not in the rotation list of the online master server :!:

Concluding:
Red Eclipse is by far the best & most addictive FPS game that I've played (in terms of gameplay & fun). What it urgently needs is more advertising on Gaming sites & on the social networks.

I played the game and got hook into it for days >_>
Overall it's a great game but after awhile It started to feel that the game could have improve more. I wish it has more variety of weapons and coop mode. Anyway, keep it up :)

I can't find any release notes regarding what's new with the Supernova edition.
Also, off topic, but how do I start a new thread?

New release! At last the awesomeness of the SVN can be brought to everyone -- failing that, shoved down their throats due to lack of the loathed Ides edition...

But all melodrama aside, I very much like the changes to the core gameplay. The new movement options (charged powerjump and powerslide) mean that jetpack is no long a requirement for some maps - personally I hope it is phased out of the game completely. Other than that, the weapons feel better than ever; each one is unique. I'm still hoping for a huge graphical overhaul to make all of the maps and models to have the same quality as the dusty streets of 'deli' and the futuristic chrome finish on 'linear' and 'bath.'

I'll edit this more as I continue playing. Thanks quin for returning to work on this!

Ok first impressions for the Supernova release..
..forgive me stating the obvious here and there:

League Mode needs tweaking. SMG and rockets stick out, the rest I would consider unplayable at the moment.

Colours are awesome! Brings life in non-team matches. I am not sure what I think about choosing pure black, but on other side, on all maps that are kept in a certain colour, choosing that colour gives a camouflage effect, too. Maybe the name colour could be inverted to player colour, so there is no way to hide with choice of colour. Or making it bi-coloured, could help too. Just ideas, not sure if it is a big issue at all.

The two new maps are great too, especially Blink. Tight fun map.

Not being able to throw the bomb in bomber-ball does fix some issues with that game-mode, but there is still a good bomberball map missing.

Keep up the great work guys! ;)

Love the game! It's been a while since I DMd with a new game, and this was defnitely my favourite one. Please keep an option for the jetpack though! I see it's not everyone's first choice, but on certain maps it really is good fun, especially where the parkour moves wouldn't work. Other than that, I think this is definitely my favourite multiplayer FPS now, and if New Zealand ever gets a ping below 250/300 average then maybe I can even join in the international carnage.
