System Requirements Sheet Project

Postby ityrelis » 05 Dec 2012, 17:15

Hi there,
First of all i would like to congratulate you for the work you've put in this project.
I am a computer science student at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and i would like to work on your game as part of a project for a course i am taking this semester.
What i wanna do is,with your permission of course,to create the SRS(system requirements sheet) documentation for your project.
Please let me know if you are interested.I really need this for my course
Thanks in advance.
Greetings, Ioannis Tyrelis

Cool stuff. I'm assuming this will require a lot of data mining?
I lost the game.

Indeed, I approved this, but I'm uncertain whether it is spam.

I think I agree with eihrul here, from http://cubeengine.com/forum.php4?action=display_thread&thread_id=1&start=14703:

So, under the circumstances, I can't offer anything. You are at liberty to use Sauerbraten within the extent of the licenses provided, just the same as anyone else.

If Ioannis Tyrelis can produce some legit documentation from his university why wouldn't you let him do it? Who knows what insights might arise.

Because it isn't clear exactly what Tyrelis will do with the code, and agreeing to something unclear may be to allow the code to be poached into a closed source project.

I think it is fairly obvious; the code/project is available under an open source license. The permission is in that license, and the limitations are clear too - but, if it is just code/software analysis, this shouldn't be an issue for Tyrelis.

If he doesn't understand or can't show his professor that an open source license gives him open access, then his problems are bigger than finding a bit of kit to play with for his university work.

Seems like the assignment is somewhat incompatible for the game. I suppose it could still be completed with Red Eclipse as the subject for study, but due to its constantly-evolving nature I doubt whatever system reqs Tyrelis comes up with will be relevant for long.

They're also almost low enough to suit any PC purchased in the last five years or so.

I have to confess I am uncertain what is mearn't by 'system requirements sheet', and I shouldn't have posted anything till it was clarified. Does it mean 'system requirements' as used on boxes of software, or does it refer to that rather complex, Requirements engineering/analysis, where you sort of model everything including the stakeholders. The thing the coders always hate.

If it's the former then it's nothing really, If it's the later could it not be of some use? People 'see' things in different ways, and another set of eyes/brain looking at the engine, or documenting aspects of it could be of some use. Why not be encouraging?

I feel a bit of the sour, sauer feel here. I believe students should always be encouraged, and visitors to the community should be welcomed.

Then I wondered. Is there something hidden deeply away in the Cube2 code base? A secret algorithm perhaps? Some malware or spyware, a supersecret encryption possibly?. I can finally reveal the truth. There is an algorithm which reveals the true name of God. And we all know what happens if that is known.......

Yes, it is 42. No, seriously, its not that any of us are against the idea, it is that there is not enough information to make an informed decision about anything, and the OP isn't helping by not providing more. It is a hostile internet, and, you have to be careful what you agree too.
