weapon models

weapon models

Postby ctdabomb » 17 May 2012, 14:20

I would like to try to contribute by making some better weapon models, but there are a few things I would like to know first:
which models are the worst?
face count?
should I start from scratch or work on existing models?
can I get the blend files for the existing weapons?
importing and exporting?
any other guidelines?
what size should it be?

I hope I can help,

Some people are like slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't help smiling when you shove them down the stairs.

If you could make some new models, that would be awesome sauce. I don't know the first thing about modelling, but it has been discussed before, and the specific requirements for Red Eclipse. The posts are probably buried in the forum, so unless you feel like searching, you'll have to wait for replies here ;P

Or, better yet, you could try the IRC channel. You're more likely to get a response there, and faster at that.

I would say the plasma and/or rifle are the ones that could most use a facelift, possibly the rocket-trashcan as well...

I'm not sure if Mike Ledger mikeplus32/64 called dibs on remaking the plasma once upon a time, or if he did, how relevant that still is now...

I know LuckyStrike-Rx had plans for making a new shotgun a while back, but I'm unsure of the status there as well...

That thread also has a couble of general modeling hints.

I think Mike and Lucky would be the ones to speak to regarding blend files (or whatever else was used (wings3D?)), unfortunately they're both not very active in the RE community currently.

I've just felt been feeling down the last couple days and have been criticizing everything, including myself.
What I most dislike with the models at the moment are the smg animations, the're mostly just placeholders.
I lost the game.

While i agree that the SMG animation could slightly be altered to look better and the rifle could use some remodeling, I think one of the only two perfectly designed and animated weapons are flamer (and pistol, obviously). The flamer, while being the worst (noobiest is better term) weapon in the game, has probably one of the best animations. At least the reload looks pretty badass. Actually, there was a game I played a while back where I only used the flamer to watch it reload (kind of a sucker for aesthetics, reloads and whatnot). Plasma animation is really good too, but is in need for remodeling in my opinion. I think everything else probably suffices. Of course like everyone else has mentioned, the game is awesome enough as it is, but its always nice to add improvements here and there :)

Anything under 5500 faces should be ok. (works on my laptop, and I only have a 128 mb graphics card)
