Just what are the system requirements for this game?

I tried playing it with the graphics all at set to their minimum, but was still getting jerky and twitchy gameplay.

Running an IBM Thinkpad T40 with 32mb graphics card and 512mb ram with Ubuntu 10.04.

I've played COD1, Halo CE, and Tribes2 on this machine back when I had XP installed (thought with the graphics turned down a bit) and the all ran smooth.

Just what does RE need to run?

I ran Halo CE pretty well so I think if you can run that you can run this. I get about a solid 60FPS on 640x480 on medium settings. I'm not even sure if this game has system requirements since it can run on pretty much any standard system. If I had to guess, I'd say min requirements are WinXP, 512MB RAM, Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent, and 32MB of video ram (Intel GMA or equivalent for laptops). Though, I can say the minimum requirements are probably somewhat lower than this.

Your bottleneck is going to the the graphics card (especially the memory), seeing as this is the most intensively used piece of hardware in RE (and other Cube Engine games). A lower resolution can help a bit, as well as making sure all the effects are turned down. To reduce the amount of texture memory required you will probably want to play with their variables, try:

Granted, things may look very washed out, but it might be playable.
