map model request

Postby 4rson » 20 Sep 2011, 11:04

If there is anyone here who is good at making map models and is feeling generous, would they be willing to make a couple of palm tree map models. I'm working on a futuristic desert themed map and need a bit of greenery to break up all the yellows and browns.

I don't claim to know much but what I need to know about licensing, but isn't CC-0 (PD) a questionable choice of license considering the global attitude toward it?

Not really, why?

As far as I know the CC0 was made specifically to address the international legal issues with giving your work to the public domain (PD). It's a regular license like the CC-by or CC-by-SA, just that the end result is more or less the same as PD.

If you have different information I would be happy to hear about it however.

I was unaware of the difference, that clears it up for me. Thanks :)

There seems to be an issue with the licensing of the palm model. Could someone who understands legalese explain if it is usable or not?

What model? Where is it or where can I find license info on it?

If you mean this, there's no issue. You can think of CC-0 as "Public Domain for Aliens" :P
Unlike in the US, copyright legislation in most countries doesn't allow you to completely abandon your copyright ("put stuff in the Public Domain"). CC-0 is a workaround for that - it allows everyone to do anything with the work, no strings attached, no conditions whatsoever, but the original author still retains the copyright.
You could also say it's like CC-by, but you don't need to give attribution.

EDIT: States -> Countries (to avoid confusion)
