League mod = I LOVE QUIN!

League mod = I LOVE QUIN!

Postby cdxbow » 23 Jul 2011, 21:14

I finally had a chance to play the league mod, and I was suitably impressed. Then I took look at the code and saw:

WEAPDEF(int, leaguetraits);
WEAPDEF(float, leaguehealth);
WEAPDEF(float, leagueweight);
WEAPDEF(float, leaguespeed);
WEAPDEF(float, leaguescale);

And my heart burst with love for Quin. Thank you! We can do a lot with this in a mecha game, with health, speed and scale being available. Its forced me to change plans a bit and has given me an idea how I might be able to change the appearence of each mech using the weapons model. btw the offer to fund a model for RE is genuine, email me if your interested.

I have worked out a possible way to give the mechs in MekArcade a different look, using the league mutator.
1. Mod League mutator to allow a second weapon
2. Pair the weapons up eg lets say rockets and flamer. The primary weapon, the rocket would determine the league characteristics
3. Make one mesh for each pair of weapons (+/- cockpit even), I'll call them combo weapons. The weapons have to be paired so both arms on the mech looks the same no matter what its firing/reloading etc. An alternative would be to use add a second weapon tag, but this would entail a big rejig of the code, this way the only code mod is limited to the league mod.
(3. a - Spend a long time animating them, but this could be spread overtime)
4. Remove the guns off our current model
5. Configure the new combo weapons to sit where the arms would be on the mech.
See illustration.....

That would give 4 different mechs with 4 different speeds, health, weapons etc. This is getting much closer to the original game than I hoped at this stage and a much more convincing Mecha experience.

I appericiate it becomes a 'one mode' game now, all games have to have the modified league mutator used, but thats not such a problem. I also understand there would be a heap of modelling work. Can anyone see a flaw in this that would mean it wouldn't work?

btw congrats on the SuperNova release.

Sounds fine to me, apart from the tweaking you'd need to do to have both weapons equipped at once. :)
