call for levels for a third Bonus Island

Hello Everybody

I am trying to make a bonus Island 3 / 4 (or something like that) that will be probably/hopefully added to the game or addons, but to do that I need levels (I will be making my own, but I need more). If you would like to contribute a level(s) to this please do. you can submit it here. It should follow most of the guidelines https://supertux.lethargik.org/wiki/Mil ... Styleguide and preferably be in the style of most of the levels in the game. this is going to be a snow themed island (meaning that (most of the time) your main tileset will be the "snow" one). the license for these levels will need to be GPL 2+ Any contribution would be greatly appreciated (though not necessarily used(quality reasons)).

thanks,
ctdabomb

P.S. I might/will soon try to make a forest themed bonus island.

I wanted to create a bonus island some time ago, but I never finished it. I have attached most of the levels I have created for my island, since I doubt that I will ever finish it. Some of them are really long, but I reckon that this is ok for a bonus island.
And by the way, IMHO, SuperTux definitely needs a better Add-On system, for example one like SuperTuxKart has :).

I would love to help build but can't on 0.3.3. If someone were to convert 0.1.3 levels for me and then use them that would be great.

what OS are you?
you should be able to find something that works here:

Using linux, Don't know what autopackage is, .deb for ubuntu 7.04 doesn't work on 12.04 and i don't know how to build from source.
I have access to Mac os x lion and windows xp if that helps.
I really don't know what to do.

Autopackage is a generic installer for Linux. It has since merged with Listaller. You could try that.

Well, I finally managed to get autopackage installed, then i try to run the editor's .package and it tells me i need to install mono. Doing that now, will post again if i get this thing working.

# Checking for Mono .NET Runtime ... passed
# Checking for Gtk# ... FAIL: Unable to prepare package SuperTux Platform Game - Level Editor.

FYI- I've included Wolfs' levels as an addon accessible in-game. It's too bad there's not likely to be a worldmap- your levels are well done. And while the add-on system isn't automated, at least it's now available for modification. Thus I wanted to make sure the levels were available.

LMH-do you still want more levels, because I will make some if you want.

I've always felt that more levels never hurt anyone. Although by this point I think it's safe to say that CT is not actively making another bonus island. I have been working on converting one of the existing add-ons into a bonus island 3, but I'm not actively seeking levels for that purpose. However, if you gave me more levels (or your own worldmap) I will make sure to make them available for others to play.

What is easier,A worldmap or just the levels? And what is the theme you are trying to go by?

Well it certainly is easier (for you) to just make the levels, but it's far nicer to have a worldmap. If you make a worldmap of your own design you are free to use any theme you wish. Actually you're pretty free to do what you want regardless- even if you deviate from level design guidlines, there's still a place for your creations as an add-on.

Is there a tutorial to how to create a world map? I have no clue how to make a world map. I have used the editor before though,so i know how to make and export levels correctly.

LMH is right, I unfortunately have had no time recently for supertux :(
sydneyjd {l Wrote}:LMH,would you be willing to teach me how to make a world map?

The easiest way to do this (assuming you already have a working editor) is to just open and existing worldmap and save it as a copy and edit it from there, adding levels and such should be pretty straight forward. Just look around on current worldmaps to see how things are done.
I hope this helps, If you need a better answer let me know.

To create a worldmap using the editor, first create a new level. You should see the level properties at the bottom of the window; the last of which is "TilesetFIle". Change this from the default "images/tiles.strf" to one of the worlmap tilesets ("images/worldmap.strf" or "ice_world.strf" are current options). If you are using a recent version of the editor, it should automatically change the editing mode to worldmap. Note that if you have already placed tiles or objects, this can will cause some funky behavior.

Probaby the easiest thing to do to package the levels is to try and mimic the structure of an existing add-on. Basically, download an add-on and open it up to see the structure (they are stored in the supertux2 directory which is often hidden). There are a couple of text files that you'll need to generate as well, and once you have everything together it is all compressed in a .zip file. There's some info on the wiki, but it may only be partially useful. If you run into specific issues, shoot a message and perhaps you will get a response on how to fix it.

Well... Are you still in need of some levels? If so, I would wipe the dust from my working table and begin. ;) Only snow levels are allowed, yes?

Good levels are always welcome!
LMH did put together a (start to a) third island with levels that were floating around, but more can be added.

If I'm done, should I post the level(s) here or do you want a PM?

Putting them here or on the bugtracker would work. Whatever is easiest for you.
