Tux took cool falling lessons from Sonic.
I'm thinking of redoing the backflip like this:

And adding the cool pose at the end.
Good idea?

yes, the current one is uncreative. Tux needs some new sprites for movements. A new backflip is definitely needed, just like a new buttjump. Keep up the amazing artwork, Alzter! *fixed it*

I'm thinking of redoing Tux's entire spriteset to have more flair and look nicer.
I finished the buttjump, so download SuperTux Improved (on page 1, first post) and try it out! It works in game! (For big tux.)
Oh and btw, It's alz-ter. :P

Looks great!
Maybe add a frame at the end where Tux slightly bends his (non-existent) knees, so he gets a little smaller before he stands up again.

All of Grumbel's contributions to SuperTux were usually drawn twice as large and with black lining and then a colour fill.
I'm trying to replicate the style:

Progress. Surprisingly time consuming.
On another note, where is everyone?

Those sketches of Nolok kinda remind me of Bowser. I like them!
Especially that last one, maybe that pose could be used as an attack while fighting Nolok?

Big Tux's walking animation now has eight frames, like small tux! Download the latest SuperTux improved to try it out!

Tiled rocks possibly suitable for a Forest world overhaul, if achievable.

More Mr. Tree/Stumpy animations soon, then will do more forest creatures.

I like it, but I dont think it fits the Supertux style. The current tree is pretty good imo since it fits the cartoony style of supertux. Some enemies that do need work seem to be the owl, plant monster and ghost tree.

EDIT: SuperTux is a fun game, but I don't think it should die. Some people still enjoy playing it.
Old, dumb rant

EDIT: The message that used to be here was a rant about SuperTux I made after experiencing burnout from working too hard on the art, and doesn't convey what I feel about the game now. While SuperTux may not be the most original game, it is fun (besides the cheap levels), and my past outlook of trying to singlehandedly finish SuperTux by making all the art for it was extremely unrealistic and the lead up to me overworking on the art to the point of exhaustion. Now I just want to contribute art to make the game look nicer. So please understand that the views conveyed in the previous post do not represent my current opinion on SuperTux. I aplogize for insulting the game and its developers, they are good people and I was wrong to insult them.

Although I agree ST does not have many "unique" elements, here's where I disagree: It's still a fun game. A game does not have to be original to be fun. Look at e.g. OpenRCT2: it is not just a clone, but a reverse-engineering and re-implementation of RCT2. That's what makes it what it is. Don't get me wrong, I like original elements (e.g. SuperTuxKart's nitro) but you don't necessarily have to be original to be fun.

I agree. Supertux is not very original, but its still a pretty good game. I think the thing that makes Supertux better than Mario is the level editor. Granted, the level editor for milestone 2 didn't exist until recently, but I think its one of the greatest things about Supertux.
Not everything needs to be original to be great, it just needs to take its own spin on things, which I think Supertux does really well.

Well said. While I think these new drawings are good, they just seem a little too...lifelike, I guess? Maybe I've become too attached to the current versions of things.

What would make the tree a bit better is if there was some rustling in the leaves. He's a bit static at the moment. The leaves should 'bounce' a bit as he walks.

To be honest I would probably redo Mr. Tree if I were to come back to drawing art for SuperTux anyway. He's horribly asymmetrical, his lighting has too much contrast as compared to other badguys and he looks a bit too scary.

EDIT: I've removed Mr. Tree and the edited forest tiles from the SuperTux Improved zip. They don't really suit SuperTux and if I were to revamp the forest I'd integrate the new tiles into some sort of showcase level. This post also doubles as a bump to get some more discussion going here. I'm considering making some more animations for Tux (like backflip), and maybe even redoing some enemies (I've wanted to redo haywire quite some time).
(Also side note: I might tweak Big Tux's new walk anim. I just realized his back foot goes over his tail. Woops!)
