That being said, I think the forest background could look very good in-game (as long as the trees aren't smiling at you). I think it looks better than the one we currently have, IMHO.
A quick bit of constructive criticism: Instead of trying to redraw the game in your own graphic style, as brmbrmcar pointed out, try to draw some graphics that fit into the current supertux style. Take a look at https://github.com/SuperTux/supertux/projects/3 and see if you could contribute to any of these. The Supertux team always needs more artists, and especially so with the upcoming release of a stable Forest World.

Wow, these look very good! I like how Tux has "character" in him. I also like how vibrant the trees look. What do you think about doing small pixel lineart in my new SuperTux project?

Don't worry, it is very much smaller than these sprites. It's ok if you don't want to.

This looks awesome. Did you use GIMP for this? Also, If they use this, it means we'll need a new penny sprite.

I love these sprites. Please continue making these.
I love how Tux isn't the linux mascot, and is a penguin in a tuxedo. Much more original and makes more sense.

I think you shouldn't limit yourself to the "style" of supertux. It's kind of dated, and tux being the linux mascot is out of place, and the style is inconsistent anyway. I would love to see how you interpret the game, and maybe even make some fluid animations.

Hi everybody! This is my first post!

I adore these sprites and it's a shame that this thread has been dead for so long. I decided to do some animations for them myself. Below is a wip walk.

Okay, I'm done with the walk. It won't be available as an addon yet because I'm not very familiar with the game files, but I will upload any progress.

Not a fan of the smiling trees either, but the background itself looks pretty nice.

Oh no! SuperTux is slowly transforming into superDuk.

Sure the animation of tux needs work, but he should keep
his penguin apirance.

End plese, he must have a pointy beek
it's the sing that makes him Tux, the penguin.

Regards, lorenzo.

I know how hard it is to animate, Good luck.

Thanks! I think the outline got messed up because of compression into gif if that's what you mean. In the actual animation frames it looks much better. Sending example.

To be honest, I also have mixed feelings about duck-like silhouette of the side sprite. I'll try making noninvasive changes to make it look slightly more like a penguin while not ruining the design... I don't promise any miracles though.

I redrew the beak, gave him some legs (for easier animation among other reasons) and outlined the tail. Tell me if it's any good before I continue.

It's still a to drastic change, end it looks more like a comic
character.

He does not look ferocious, he looks like a stuffed penguin, how could he defied nolok?

eniway he looks good but the still does not fit into the game...

Mario doesn't look ferocious either and yet his ability to defeat Bowser is not put into question haha. I like this design mainly because it has tons and tons of personality. It is easily recognizable.

Even if these don't get implemented (I understand the chance is minuscule), I am uploading them for anyone who wants them as a mod.

I disagree with all of this.

Why should Tux look ferocious? That makes no sense. Nolok should look ferocious. Tux is supposed to be the hero of the story.

I like it. It's a big improvement.

Ok, reading this is kind of disappointing, I simply don't
understand why you (and with you I mean all) start with
something compliedly New and don't work on that what
you have been devolopping over 20 year's to make it
better.

if you change Tux's aparience, this game will stay under development for another 20 years!

feel free to change whatever you want
It's a free game, but personally
I think we should simply rework the old sprite that in my opinion it is more adapted for the environment of this
game, if we use the other sprite we need to change everything
and make a "new" game.

just what I think............ Lorenzo.

I Don't Really Have To Say Anything,
Since I Don't Care,
But I Just Want To Say,
I Would Like It To Be An Option.

You Know,
In The Options Menu.

Just Because I Think It's A Good Idea.

Also,
Could There Be Some Options With This?

I Just Think It's A Good Idea.

The sprites look quite well in-game. There is no need to redo the whole aesthetic around them. And Penny and Nolok need whole new spritesets anyway. So what's the problem?

A mod manager would sound fun (maybe integrated into the planned overhaul of the add-on manager?) but sadly, I can do nothing to make it happen. I hope someone picks up the idea.
