Level Editor Ideas/problems (make it user-friendly)

Postby DatTuxBoi » 08 Apr 2018, 04:52

OK,here we go.

I downloaded the supertux0.5.1.exe file. I heard the news about a in-game level editor, so I got excited.
The thing is:
- Movable Saw (or whatever) is impossible to put on the brown long tile Image
- The movable grey spinning platforms are almost impossible to program
- The invisible blocks turn normal/disappear(COMPLETELY).
hope i help, or not

EDIT:Doors/ Lever stuff are impossible

The screenshot is from the SuperTux Milestone 1. I don't think this is supported anymore.

I'm using the version for Linux, so if these are actual bugs of this specific version, I'm not able to help.
1. The Sawblade doesn't come with the brown log texture they have on the editor image (don't know why it's displayed like this). Instead, they have to be placed like normal platforms (see 2nd).
2. The node editor is not that easy, I know: Select the red arrow in the "Ambient" menu and click on a platform. You first have to select the node (red/white square) you will start from and then click on a place you want to go to. If you want to place a third node after this, you have to click on the second node first. Otherwise, the first node will still be selected and you place a new second node between the others. Nodes can be deleted with eraser, if you delete the last node, the obkect will be removed.
3. The invisible box: This might be a display problem in the editor, as it has a semi-transparent texture. (However, I don't experience it anymore in the version I use.) It should be normal while playing.
4. Doors: Place a door and right-click it. Now you can type in the sector's and the spawnpoint's name. The sector is a part of the level which you can switch at the bottom left of the editor. In this sector, you can place a spawnpoint ("Ambient" menu) and give it a name. If you are using the door now, it should transport you to the spawnpoint.
5. Levers: Place a lever, right-click it and then click on the "script". It isn't the most fancy type of console, but you then can type in commands. To type in a second command, use ENTER. You can find a full list of commands here: http://supertux.lethargik.org/wiki/Scripting_reference

Are the starting sector and the starting spawnpoint both still called "main"?

SuperTux always tries to spawn Tux at "main","main". If there's no spawnpoint called "main", the spawn location may be a bit weird. Of there's no sector called "main" it will most likely crash. Try it this way. If it still crashes, start SuperTux in the console by typing in "supertux2" and paste the error code in here.

Your sectors are called "one" and "two". This is not how things are supposed to work. One of them has to be the main sector, called "main".

Not for me. Is it "main" with a lower-case m?

Yes.

One thing i should mention is, the supertux.exe official file didn't work. I now use a third-party supertux, SuperTuxPortable.

Try this file. Older builds of SuperTux didn't support a "/" at the beginning of a file path and will crash. Unfortunately, newer versions of SuperTux add them to every path.
