I don't know how I feel about automatic running

On the one hand, it's kinda cool and realistic, on the other lack of a run button (even if it's the same input as for firing, like in Mario) limits possibilities of making levels that require precise speed control (either you need to go slowly and methodically or very fast).

There used to be a slow down function by holding action, but that doesn't work anymore.

A slowdown function doesn't seem to make any sense in my opinion. It would be more logical if there was a key to speed up.

But almost everyone would just hold it down anyway. Or even better: allow it to be changed by the user as an option.

Yeah, what Manuel said. Also I think in 0.1.3 running worked like in Mario. Normally you're slow, but when you press fire, you run. All in all, don't change something just because it was in a game your game is reminiscent of. If it works, it works.

I didn't mean that automatic running is bad. But, as a player, I wouldn't expect a running key to slow me down.

I much preferred the option to slow down but go fast normally. I find that I'd never use the slow mode anyway, because normal running isn't that fast and I wouldn't want to let that go. But, if the player wanted to, they could hold it to slow down. But again, this should be optional as to which way around it is.
