What is wrong with supertux

Hi to all.
Please, be patient, I will post some critics about new Supertux milestone and explain it.

SuperTux has very simple gameplay: "go, catch, detroy" (it is platformer).
What are the ways to bring interest in such gameplay:
1) make exciting story
2) make beautiful graphics
3) make catchy gameplay
4) some knight's move

SuperTux as clone of SuperMario and game from free-time entusiasts, has:
1) simple story
2) simple, but nice, graphics
3) simple gameplay
4) Two key traits that brought tension to the gameplay was limited in movement and limited lives:
    * Tux could not return to the coin, which has not had time to pick up.
    * And fail threw it to the start of level.
New version of the game allow to go back, and has meny checkpoints.
Yes, it aquire little look improvements, but gameplay takes big harm.
