Combat Reference Video's

a thread to collect some reference material.
and possibly some thoughts about the video's

this video (ignore its title) made me think about starting this thread because it resembles some problems LoS might encounter.
I don't think its perfect but there are lots of basics things working pretty well
lock on targeting is there for example.
the most obvious thing I think is bad is the melee attack speed it feels laggy.
you could defend this by saying its a heavy weapon dealing lots of damage. I don't think that argument is wrong but I still think the implementation is bad
in my opinion this is better done in monster hunterhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUshWklMrZk

Other video's might be something from Devil may Cry for example. or anything really.
I welcome anyone to think along :) collecting some thoughts and reference material

Sure, why not.

The combat of the first game looks quite tedious and clunky to me. To be fair, combat probably isn't its main focus, but if it were, there'd need to be much more variation, smoothness and impressiveness. The feeling of monsters being fearsome and your combat arts being badass is important if combat is your main focus. Monster Hunter does those things well. It focuses on big weapons and powerful impacts, which works well since the monsters are slow and generally predictable. If that were not the case, its combat would probably be rather painful since the attacks would be too slow to hit anything.

Finding anything relevant from YouTube was a major pain, but here's some random footage from some games that offer a 3rd person camera. Skip offsets provided for busy people who are only interested in the combat.

Here's an example of abundant use of combos/combat arts:

That certainly looks sufficiently over the top, so it's nice as an artistic reference. However, it's pretty hard to tell how that kind of action could be made work smoothly in-game, so perhaps it's not so good as a technical reference.
