Can somebody recommed an open source (or at least free) terrain edition tool that can export heightmaps to png? Right now Urho3D doesnt implements terrain edition and Im needing it to create some less boring scenes.

You could use the terrain editor that is build into Torque3D, it allows exporting hight-maps AFAIK.

Otherwise check these:
http://geomorph.sourceforge.net/news_en.html
http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/wilbur.html
(I looked into these for tools that allow erosion modelling, but never got around actually trying them).

But I am sure there are also other, better/simpler tools around.

Perhaps Blender has a terrain tool?

AFAIK, Blender can create terrains, but dont know if they can be exported as a heightmap.

It can be done in multiple way, the easiest should be to put a isometric camera looking at the bottom and export the Z component of the render.

Edit: maybe this one: http://www.firedrake.org/terraform/ ? Its a bit old though...

Will try those. Geomorph is restricted to my country (the authors forgot to authorize downloads), tried Pnp, but places a nasty watermark, more like a "terrain mark" on the exported heightmap.
