A Mantle Of Games - album with CC-BY-SA for FOSS games

Postby timong » 27 Nov 2011, 22:55

Hello,

Just today I've published a new set of music tracks. Different styles, themes are mixed in this album. Tracks that I've made in the last years in between other musical projects (other opensource game soundtracks too). So I've gathered these tracks and published them in one. Along with two tracks that were made for PARPG. The album cover was created by qubodup. Thanks!!

If you want to check out moar look at http://www.illespalzoltan.com and/or http://www.facebook.com/IllesPalZoltan and the jamendo site (http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Pal_Zoltan_Illes)

If you happen to use them, I humbly ask you to contact me please, so I can add you to my site as well! Contact me preferably through the facebook page (above), or here in this topic. Well, what creative commons composers really like is feedback, that's why I'm asking for it. :)

Thanks,
Paul

After listening to it a bit I would say great work for game music, but I don't really see myself listening to it as music-music (if you get what I mean by that ;) ).
Still... that doesn't mean that it isn't great music for the purpose it was made for.

Oh as we are a bit of a creators community... care to share your tool-chain and how you make this music? It's always good to give some tips to other people who might be interested in making some music too ;)

Thanks Julius for the kind words, appreciated! :)

About the pipeline: I'm using Cubase, midi and commercial VST plugins (symphonic, rock, drum sets or guitar distortion plugins...and more). More or less what most of composeres use.

These are quite theme-based and varied game music as you pointed out, and righteously you can call it non-casual most of the time, but as much as I know, there's people who like this kind of music... I'm much fond of game music tracks, which people usually don't listen to...but thats part of the thing, thats why i do my stuff in the first place.

Hopefully some projects will find it useful soon! If the word gets to those projects, the chance will be there. :)

I listened it and I must say that’s a great work that can fit to many opensource/indie games !
Julius is right, you should make a how-to thread on the forum ;)

Thanks, farcodev! :)
Eventually there's a freaking lot of material around the interweb about composing with midi and vst plugins. :) It requires knowledge of music theory or natural talent, and needs creativity. :D It would be a waste of time to write a "book" about it myself, when there's plenty already.

No problems :)

Ya, i can imagine that there's many sources on the subject yet, my suggestion was to only concentrate it in this forum for open source materials.
Maybe a pinned thread w/ resource links ? :?

Yes i insist "a bit" :D
