Showcase Thread

Again, not my art, but worth showing off.
Image
This is a small preview of Sindwiller's old 6Megapixel photo references, for which I created a preview at http://qubodup.wordpress.com/2012/06/01 ... ce-images/ - before one would have to simply download a 665M-heavy archive to view them. These are GPL2+/CCBYSA3 dual-licensed, so they might be a bit tedious to use because of the licensing requirements.

Image
There's also Martin Gerhardy's 886-photos gallery, which is now CC0 licensed! Much easier to make derivative works of!

I have been making replacement art for protected stuff in DNT lately: soda machine textures, fake game cover textures/inventory images..

Guess what this is a replacement is for!

You're right. I was thinking "why did I trace so much" after stopping work on it. This is not a box art for DNT by the way, it's for an in-game item. The intent is to give praise to Fallout 2. Would you recommend making a less-similar version to be copyright/trademark-safe?

I now make bigger changes when creating "free" art that honors/parodies real but non-free art. My latest attempt:
From non-free to free.

If anybody feels like giving it a shot, we need replacements for six more paintings:

Sometimes OGA's previews are just too small:

This set has SVG-based tiles and .blend-based sprites and comes with export scripts O_O
full-packaged "open source" 2d art I'd say.

Uncommon way to do 2D art, but I think it's a great way to do it if the results look that good ;)

I have added 51 sounds during the last seven days to my cc0/pd "military sounds" pack on Freesounds: mortars, aircraft noise, ship's bridge ambience, missile launches, gunshots...

Just a heads up - the Explosions (2 to 5), Bullet swish and Sci-fi rifle (originating from the Army Future Combat Systems video) has recognisable Sound Ideas mixing inundations, not surprising because it is a "professionalvideo" and you know how I feel about professional sound engineers prefabricating sounds using licensed copyrighted samples to do their job rather than actually going out there to create sound effects at ranges etc.

I mean, I was listening through the whole pack and some of it tickled my tin ear, particularily it's just the "professionalvideo" sounds that are suspect. The rest of the sounds that aren't "professional video" sound like authentic recordings of real guns the way they should be.

Gotta finish the UV maps and put on a texture on her...

I know I had a Glock 17 that I was in progress texturing but I can't find the model. I did find a pic of it though...

We have a working Battle Armor and human gaited Meka to showcase! You can download them and play with if you want, they are from our game, MekArcade, which will be released early in the New year.

Download the battle armor from http://teamxbow.org/cube/models/misfit/battle_armor2_v04.zip.

The meka can be downloaded from http://teamxbow.org/cube/models/models-mek/mek6_v04.zip.

Each has the milkshape/misfit original file and an exported md5 mesh, animations, basic skin and config for the Cube engine. I have posted more details about these models in the red eclipse forum - http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=3529 Note that these are works in progress, part of the reason we have put it up because we need help with configuring the md5.cfg to seperate the mesh in upper & lower functional parts.

If you want to play with the models, then I recomend you try our very ownMisfit Cubed - get it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/misfitcubed/. Misfit Cubed is Midfit 1.38 + an Md5 exporter. Read the wiki about tags and using it. These models are set up with the animations already to export as discrete md5 animations,so when you do your export the mesh & all the animations get spat out in one go, it is very efficient. It tries to make an md5.cfg for RE but you really have to make your own.

As always, any with a burning desire to contribute, we would love to here from you.

Enjoy!

Nice models.
Any chance you could provide the mm3d files, too?

Oh yes.

We have more than this char, I think in a few weeks our first Level will be done.

Our Game will be a 3D Jump and Run with RPG elements.
You will be playing a Robot ( not our Concept, this will be an enemy). You are able to get Skill points through level up and can as example add one more attack to your combo or learn a double jump.
After learning double jumps, dashing and heavy attacks you can get to new places in old level, so you have many things to explore.
But we will give you more Informations, graphics, videos and music soon.
