It's all in the name

It's all in the name

Linwarrior 3D... not bad but not amazing.

1) implies Linux only
2) not-so-subtle reference to another franchise of the same genre, but the context does not carry over ("warrior" is ambiguous)

Could there be a better name for the game?

Starting points:

1) hc: how attached are you to the "Linwarrior" brand?

2) is there risk to using the key term for getting brand recognition: "mech"?

Is it trademarked? Short answer: yes. Long answer: not in a way that prevents its use. Two companies hold trademarks on the isolated term "mech" and neither are relevant to computer games. One is a plumbing supplies company, the other is the military.

Here's a (tame) suggestion, as an example that could be used: Mech Frontier

-> 1) I'd like to stick to this "working title" until it's worth to have a better name and until I find a better name ;)
And yes, I don't like that "not-so-subtle reference to another franchise of the same genre".
So eventually I'd like to change the working title to a name.
Maybe something suggesting Mechanical Land/Air Battle Warfare.
I'd like to expand Mech to Mechanical to suggest all kinds of...mechanical things.

A funny thing about Linwarrior ... everybody seems to dislike the name ... therefore it sticks out ;)
Most names for the mech genre are like noise, just assemble to nouns: 1. For gigantic-robot and 2. war-related.

So here's my suggestion as a reaction to what you just said:

Mechanized or Mechanized Warfare

Not much game identity with the term 'mechanized' (mainly web games and an old DOS game that have 'mechanized' as part of a bigger title).

My cent:

Gigar - Gigantic, War, sounds solid enough for being a planet's, clan's or person's name.

If there is "mech" in the name, the game will forever be held agains MW. Just think of the name SUPERtuxKART.

Cold War is another foss mech game. That name is fine IMHO. I'd prefer a name that has a place in the game world for a change.
