I hate putting stuff on a page specifically for google to catch, but I suppose it can't be helped. Done.

Looks decent. And with all justified revulsion to SEO, it's better than having sites like you-know in the first place.

My approach to SEO is generally just to build a good website and let the search engines figure it out. It's not super fast, but it works very well in the long run. We're the top search for "free game art" and "open source game art", and I never specifically went after either of those phrases. :)

BartK: it's not about google or catching masses, it's about art-making and game-creating individuals who are looking for "exactly something like OGA". :)

Think of what people, who want to find OGA, would search for on google. Then take steps so that they have a chance of finding it easily. It's like writing users stories.

With <title> being equal on all pages and no description of the content being available, central pages like the search queries for all sounds or all 3d models are useful only to those who know how to get there and who can tell what the content is by looking at the results and/or form and/or url.

To be on the top of q="open source game art" is great but this is only one of the many, many perspectives on OGA. it's not just generic art, it has "freely licensed, open sounds", it has "open source explosion sounds for games", it has "freely licensed zombie 3d model"...

There's is also another incentive to be efficient at presenting core information about the content in a page and in the title: blind users.

1. If you have the time to get involved deeply, you might be able to help with administering drupal at some point, ask BartK :)

2. For now, there is another way you can help: find "lists" of free game/open art that are missing OGA and add the site to them :)
see http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/openg ... e-art-list

3. Last but not least: create art and upload it using good tags/descriptions! Or go out there and find freely licensed art and add it to OGA (for example http://creative-commons.deviantart.com/gallery/26171837 - found by searching for "creative commons textures" [note: Creative Commons != freely licensed] )

We've still got about a thousand textures left the need to be categorized. Any help there, even a little, would be appreciated. If you're willing, let me know and I'll set up your account so that you can do it.

With respect to uploading art packs, that's always awesome. Just make absolutely sure (especially with textures) that you know the precise origin of everything you're uploading. We get way too many packs of "free" textures from "around the internet" that turn out to be free as in "use these in your games but don't archive them on a website" as opposed to free as in Free Software. :)

so find good art thats licensed properly, and upload it?

By the way: To make the page more friendly to visitors with visual impairment, you should switch off the transparency of the half transparent menues.

on a side-note, http://lpc.opengameart.org/content/mozi ... -pixel-cup also has the transparency-readability problem :)

See how readable http://blog.humblebundle.com/ is by comparison.

I made such a site if anyone is still interested, can be found on: http://www.duion.com/art/main
Most textures are by myself, some by other contributors and all are CC0.

They are good, most of them are not seamless, but the resolution is high and the quality is very good.
They are useful to create new textures for your game or for good quality 3D projects.

I planned to contribute soon, i made some higher resolution textures now (they have better quality than some i made before)
