Theme "Orange"

Theme "Orange"

Postby Wuzzy » 10 Jun 2012, 21:01

Here's a weird and bright theme called "Orange".
Because I like the color orange. And because the other themes are way too "dark" if you understand what I mean. ;-)
Current version: 1
As the name suggests, it is a theme, where everything is orange and the "shadow" is brown.
The blocks, shadow blocks and fragile blocks are square-shaped oranges. They come in four slighlty different variants.
The conveyor belts are represented by an orange peel. :D
The background is colored orange, too. The sun is shining.
The spikes are a shameless rip-off of the Pixel Caslte theme by leovilok (corrected! was: Tedium), just tinted orange.
"Me", "my shadow", Exit, portal, checkpoint, switch, floor button and the key are just shamelessly copied from the Cloudscape theme by Tedium, just tinted orange. Nothing too special.

But just look to see how it looks:

This is probably not the final version. I really want to replace the rip-off spikes with something else. I don't know what. Spike oranges? Nah! Not weird enough.
I don't know if I like the background. Note that the screenshot does not show the entire background.
I probably change some other minor stuff in future, too. Who knows?

Hello,

This is funny theme which brings a nice touch to the game. Orange might not be my favourite colour but I still like this theme. It's always nice to get more content. :)

I agree that that spikes could be replaced with something more orange-like thing. I like the background but I got this idea of adding a slight orange texture to it. It might work. Also you should include some license information about your theme and the sources you used.

Thanks for the nice theme. :D

Hello Wuzzy,

It's a really good looking colourful theme. :D

If you want I could upload it to the addon system, but you'd have to add a Credits file in which you properly credit the work you derived it from.
I assume that the images of the oranges used are public domain? Or an other open license?

Perhaps it's best to change the background to something a bit more desaturated, increasing the contrast with the things in the foreground, players and blocks.

Also I want to note that the Pixel Castle theme was made by leovilok (link). ;)
Which on his turn used art made by surt (link).

I think you should look at default wallpapers of GNU/Linux distros, they always have colorful things that are pretty nice, I'm sure you can find one that is mostly orange.

Hi MCMic and that's a great idea. I looked into default GNOME wallpapers and here's what I found:

Terraform-orange-scaled.jpg

Spaceflare-supernova-scaled.jpg

They are under CC-BY-SA but I couldn't find exact license informations for single wallpaper. Also they are scaled down just showing them for you guys. :)

EDIT:
Both wallpapers:

Just for you to know, feel free to do anything with the theme you want, I won't impose copyright restrictions on the stuff I've made. Some stuff is derivate work from other themes, but I already mentioned that in the first post.

I still really need to find a good background, I am not happy with neither the current one nor these GNOME backgrounds.
I still have no good idea for the spikes block. Do you have any?

As far I know, this theme still works correctly with 0.4.1.
