Cloudscape theme

Hi everyone,

Tedium {l Wrote}:I was experimenting with the menu. Here's my new levelselect next to the old one.

[picture]

Nice picture :) You mean we should change the appearance (look and feel) of the GUI gadgets, unfortunately, IMHO SDL 1.2 lacks some function such as stretching picture and tile paint and gradient fill and so on, so it will take some time to write new GUI drawing functions to support custom graphical style...

Edward_Lii {l Wrote}:Your right, I'm afraid I don't know which font the entries in the main menu use.

It's "Comic Sans MS", a non-opensource font :|

MCMic {l Wrote}:Seems better.
Maybe the character and its shadow should appear on the main menu decoration?

 Make me think of the SuperTux title screen...

Me and my Shadow shouldn't be using a non-opensource font.
Perhaps one of these will do ? (they look a bit like the old one).

Hello Tedium,

Tedium {l Wrote}:Me and my Shadow shouldn't be using a non-opensource font.

Added it to the tracker for V0.3.
Luckily I've still got the .xcf files for the help screens. :)

This VDS font goes well with my main menu. In this mock-up I've used bold italic VDS for the title and italic VDS. (The title needs to be big, and the menu entries look better with italic only).

Yet another mock-up. Text is a little bit off-centre, but that can be fixed ;)

I did not understood why you removed the use of the Comic Book Font? Is it non-free?

It's a non-free font, so it should be replaced ASAP.
It may be free of costs, it is not free as in speech. ;)

I've tried to find fonts that look even more like the Comic Book font, because I think Me and my Shadow can do without non-opensource font(s).

Interesting... the Architects Daughter font is great, but not suitable for the main menu. See this example:
Play Architects Daughter.png
Play Architects Daughter.png (2.56 KiB) Viewed 20157 times

The letters are (vertically) long (especially the "y") and they don't seem to fit this button.
However, the Blokletters Viltstift (Bold version of the Blokletters font) looks more like the Comic Book font.
Here's the main menu with the Blokletters Viltstift font :

Oops, I overlooked the "Comic style" part of Font Squirrel...

Please tell me if you think you've found a free opensource font suitable for Me and my Shadow.

Hello everyone! I'm a new guy here and interested in contributing Me & My Shadow. The game is really fun to play and new graphics by Tedium are just awesome! Only thing that bothered me was the primitive menu and GUI elements so I decided to make some mock-ups and send them to the developers. After browsing this forum I came across this thread and saw that the problem was already noticed. So now I'm posting them here:

screen1.png
As you notice I have made a new logo for the game :D

screen2.png
I like keeping things simple. In my opinion any borders aren't needed.

screen3.png
Yet again KISS

Another dialog with 2 buttons

I'm using font called Knewave. It's free and its license will be compatible with free software.

It's just the way I'd wanted things to be. Anyway I hope you guys like it.

I really like the new logo.

My only concern is that the text sometimes looks a bit too bold, or is that just me?

Anyway, thanks for the mockups, I think we should go for this style.

i like this also. but I think that Edward_Lii is right in both parts: the font is a bit bold and it is just a personal preference

Hello again! Thank you so much for the feedback! It's nice to see you like my design :D! Maybe the font is really too bold but I personally like the shape of it. We could find an another similar font but it's hard to find one with a proper license for project like this. What should we do?

BTW here's the SVG source for you play around ;)

You should keep the font you choose for menus and the font Tedium chose for ingame. Your logo is great.
