Cloudscape theme

Postby Tedium » 19 Oct 2011, 11:16

Hi,

I've made a theme and would like to post it. It's called cloudscape :D.
Here's a screenshot :
Screenshot.png

To install the theme: unpack the archive in ~/.meandmyshadow/themes/Cloudscape/

I've got a question.
What license should it have?

Feedback is welcome.

Hello Tedium,

Thanks for contributing, it's a very nice theme. ;)

Tedium {l Wrote}:I've got a question.

That depends on what you want.
I recommend you look at the Creative Commons licenses.
Choose one, and place it in a LICENSE file and put it in the archive.
The opener the better, so try to avoid NoDerivs and NonCommercial.

BTW, if you settled on the license could I use this theme to test the addon manager?

Hello Edward_Lii,

I've decided to go with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
And yes, you may use this to test the addon manager.

So this is the license:

Thank you and good luck on testing.

Thank you very much!
I've just committed the addon manager to svn, more information here: http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2116

EDIT: I've added a new block to the game, a notification block.

Thanks again! ;)

Hello Tedium,

I've changed some things regarding themes so you'll need to adjust your theme again, sorry. :(
The %DATA%, %THEMES%, etc.. can't be used any more.
The reason for this is to make the theme files easier to read and to make no difference if a theme installed in the userPath or the dataPath.

I've attached the changed file.

The current walk animation has only 2 frames and a proper walk cycle contains at least 4 frames: Forward Contact Point, Passing Pose1, Back Contact Point and Passing Pose 2
Here's my attempt at a walk animation next to the old one. (I know the arms aren't moving but It's still WIP :) )

I think the number of frame in the animation should be decided by the theme.

I've improved the animation for the player character and his shadow.
- Better walk animation (see animation below)
- separate jump and fall frames

Thanks, it looks great.
Do you mind if we make it the default theme of V0.2?

I was experimenting with the menu. Here's my new levelselect next to the old one.

It's only a mock-up. BTW I think "default" written under "default" is a bit silly ;).

Nice!
The uglier thing in MeAndMyShadow is the main menu, especially the font used, the "H" of help is really out of place.
Could you work on a main menu look, font and title image?

I'll try to improve the title menu, but I am not experienced with fonts :| .

I think I found the reason for that ugly "H". The main menu isn't making use of the Comic Book font :o ! In fact, the whole main menu has a different font :o !
Here's the old main menu:

Your right, I'm afraid I don't know which font the entries in the main menu use.
Perhaps you could do a complete overhaul and also change the font?

The main menu looks ugly because it's dull and empty. We should find a replacement for the Comic Book font.

You should use the Comic Book font for the menu IMO since it's use in other menus.
You should make a pretty title image.
And the rectangle around menu entries should not have a side in common with the one around the next menus entries, if you see what I mean. (The mouse over effect)

Seems better.
Maybe the character and its shadow should appear on the main menu decoration?

Wouldn't it be cool if the characters walked across the bottom of the screen :)?
Update, smaller buttons:

Update, smaller buttons:

That could be done, the default theme is already loaded so rendering them isn't impossible.
I've added it to the tracker for the next release (0.3).
