Linux and smartphone + vr cardboard. is it posible?

Postby mdtrooper » 15 Jul 2016, 03:54

Some days ago, I bought a cheap cardboard vr, because a friend said that is great. And yes more or less...it is good this cheap vr.

Well, I have been searching about there is a method to connect the smartphone with linux for to use as oculus rift or something vr system.

Do you know how?

I want to test the linux games and in truth I want to test a 3D desktop...this is sounds great.

Thanks, regards.

So far there really isn't any working VR support under Linux, much less so a "bridge" that would allow what you want.

I follow this page for updates: http://www.vronlinux.com/ and there are some interesting developments, but nothing really working AFAIK.

Under windows there is this: https://riftcat.com/vridge which would allow doing what you want. I doubt it is really comparable to a regular headset like the Vive or OSVR though.

P.S.: Try QVR (QuakeVR) on your phone, its pretty cool and open-source. You'll need a controller though.
