GunChleoc has a point :P and this is posted in Off-topic too. However Julius was probably saying it tongue-in-cheek.

Alright, I'm biased and prefer rpgs and action rpgs, as well as a bit of turn based strategy. Here is my list of stuff you should play.
Wograld (okay, yeah, really biased, I do suggest compiling the latest git version for this.
Flare
Battle for Wesnoth
Valyria Tear (again I suggest compiling the latest from the repository too)
Ancient Beast (but only if you have someone to play hot seat with as AI isn't implemented yet. Its a really cool concept though and you can play in your browser)

If you looking for car games look here, maybe some of them will suit you https://www.topspeed.com/car-games/car- ... ex142.html

Recently I really liked Earn To Die, it was a very addictive game, it takes quite a while to acquire all the options but it is just plain fun to drive over the zombies. Sound effects are viciously fun :D

Proprietary.

Libre vroom vroom games are actually not too common, so that's a niche for those looking to exploit it I guess. The list on LGW is pretty thorough, padding it out with both originals (Tux Racer, Tux Kart) and forks (Extreme Tux Racer, Super Tux Kart) even though they're the same games. I've tried several of them, but I just can't get into the top-down racing experience (Pixel Wheels, PyRacerz, etc).

One game that is not on LGW but is on Wikipedia is Dust Racing 2D, which is exactly like the types of games Ichsan described. It's very polished, but not really my thing. Your distro probably has it if you like NASCAR.

VDrift is on the rejected list on LGW due to some "nonfree media": https://libregamewiki.org/Libregamewiki ... mes_list#V. Not sure how trustworthy and up-to-date that information is, someone could double-check and possibly update that Wiki. I'd be really glad if that game turned out to be libre.

Dust Racing 2D is on the suggested list: https://libregamewiki.org/Libregamewiki ... games#2017. I'll think about creating a page for it.

Recently completed Doom the Way id Did and Doom 2 the Way id Did using Crispy Doom. Now I used the commercial IWADs, but if I had used Freedoom Phase One and Two it would all be free (save for the levels themselves). ;)

Though granted that would be kind of missing the point. It was rather like replaying Doom and Doom II all over again for the first time. It did remind me that I prefer Doom 1 to Doom 2 though, but both were enjoyable. I personally think Doom the Way id Did actually captures the spirit better than the original if that makes any sense.

I actually never played original Doom and Doom 2 but I played FreeDoom under PrBoom+ (that's what Debian installs when you install FreeDoom). It was nice to experience it in 100% FOSS way. I would really like to have 100% FOSS version of Quake 1, 2, 3 (ok, OpenArena is kinda 100% FOSS Quake 3) and Doom 3 so people can experience those games without surrendering their freedoms. But, not a lot of ppl care about freedom.

I've played Doom 2016 recently and it changed my perspective on the entire series. Doom 2016 by far is the worst Doom game. Constant "upgrades" and "challenges" telling you how you should play the game and punishing you if you don't do it. Wow, that's insulting. Multiplayer is an absolute joke where 99% of it is grinding for unlocks. Like, there is no fun, only mindless grind and looking at that progress bar. So... in the end I think Doom 3 is the best gameplay-wise. First two Dooms suffer from horribly complex maps and Doom 2016 has horrible gameplay all around. Doom 3 only has horrible audio logs, so it wins.

I don't understand people who praise Doom and call it legendary. Yes, it may have been the first "baby step" in first person shooters but it is only the first baby step and there are much better shooters after it.

For those who already had been playing computer games for a while, Doom seemed to realise the almost impossible at those days. Real time, first person view with graphics which looked really good for the time. A little later I tried to make my own raycasting engine, and had to see that Doom not only had a revolutinary new rendering technology but was also implemented very well - briefly I couldn't reach the performance of the original engine even that I knew how it works. So I was impressed twice.

It was a breakthrough, first of a kind. That's why it's famous. Sure, later there were better ones, but it still stays the one that really opened this genre to home computers.

Yes, it is "an interesting solution to a problem that existed for a couple of years". But... beyond that? Not really.

Disagree with you on Doom 1 and 2 Lyberta, but agree exactly about Doom 2016. I have been playing it on my girlfriend's Switch and it is rather stifling, repetitive and far too pleased with its own hype. Doom Eternal seems even more smug and prescriptive. Currently playing Doom 3 with the dhewm3 source port and am enjoying it. There have indeed been better shooters than Doom in subsequent years, but honestly not all that many (never got the hype around Half-Life). It is a master-class in branching simplicity gameplay wise, and unlike other graphical show-pieces its aesthetic has actually aged well. For reference, it was not really the rendering engine that was revolutionary, it was the application of binary space partitioning to a game context. That is where they got the performance boost.

Freedoom for me unfortunately fits in with my point of view that single player campaign oriented games can certainly be released free software, but they should not be developed openly. The idea of playing through everything only for it to all be changed a year or two in the future is not really appealing. Kind of figure they should have just gotten permission to use a popular megawad and then only focused on replacing the assets and leaving the level design alone (they did kind of by co-opting Double Impact for Phase 1). Not that I really enjoy the assets changing every few years either. I personally think they should have a rule that a present asset can only be replaced if every other one has been replaced first, rather than just going through several versions of the imp and pinky and leaving others with temp art. Still, I do admire the effort.

I see many of my friends playing escape from tarkov (but that's not my kind of thing). Also, Doom is an all-time classic as well as Witcher.
However, personally, I like something oldschool like GTA vice city, no kidding.

Same here :) but I prefer World of Warcraft! Almost 2/3 of my friends and colleagues play WoW in their spare time. Hope to become a pro gamer some time soon.*fingers crossed*
I guess that playing 2-3 hours a day is not enough for that because an average pro gamer as far as I know can spend up to 14 hours playing daily.
